Verizon's Network is evolving! 5G is ushering new opportunities, faster speeds, and amazing new applications to our Customers. Our Network is at the center of this next technological evolution, and Verizon Engineering is key to the revolution's success. As a member of our Global Network and Technology, Security Infrastructure team, you will work with dozens of like-minded, bright individuals who want to enable & positively transform our Customer's day-to-day lives.

The Security Infrastructure team blends Network Design, Infrastructure Engineering, and key Security concepts, into delivering solutions that help preserve Network uptime, customer protections, and blazing fast speeds in all 4G and 5G Wireless growth areas. We work closely with peers to plan, install, configure, and maintain some of the most advanced equipment on the planet.

  • Configure Firewall and Security related Network Infrastructure platforms for Production. Ensure Performance metrics are reviewed to keep expected service levels. Ensure configuration audit & remediation activities proceed to keep configuration deltas minimized, and potential service disruptions to zero.
  • Develop and manage Methods of Procedures for Implementation.
  • Participate in and at times, lead design discussions with Vendors, Engineering, Planning and peer Design teams, to develop new secure transport systems solutions.
  • Manage the purchasing plan, funding allocation, and coordinate downstream team installation & turn-up of equipment, in time to meet the needs of 4G and 5G Network growth.
  • Work closely with assigned equipment vendors to ensure capacity, software and system lifecycle are all planned and executed successfully.
  • Develop and test clear and accurate migration path procedures to move customer traffic between embedded and directional architectures, while ensuring Customer impact and downtime are zero.
  • Develop automation procedures to complete migrations and Implementations at an accelerated pace.
  • Lead technical project discussions developing and presenting complex technical documentation and designs.
  • Track progress andmanage deliverables both in-team and cross functional within Engineering and external Application teams, to ensure successful and appropriate implementations.
  • Provide top tier technical support to Operations on all security and application related networking issues on our owned environment.

This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience architecting, engineering, supporting Enterprise or Carrier grade Network equipment from key vendors such as Cisco, F5, Juniper etc. A deep understanding of the end-to-end Network architecture, and administration.
  • Experience with structured network design and the OSI Interconnect Model.
  • Layer one thru three fundamentals knowledge.
  • Knowledge of how various High Availability configurations on Network elements produce seamless solutions.
  • Power and Space fundamental knowledge.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A Degree in degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology.
  • A Master’s degree.
  • Willingness to work limited overnights (one-two times per month) in support of FOA activities.
  • Network and Security related Certifications.
  • Experience with Sniffer, Probe, and Packet Capture analysis products and tools.
  • Knowledge of network security products and methodologies (Firewalls, IDP/IDS, Hacking Methods.
  • Service attacks and prevention, Authentication, Security Protocols, Radius/TACACS).
  • Experience with scripting / programming (Python, Java, C++, Perl, Ansible, Heat).
  • Communications skills in Oral and Written disciplines.
  • Technical Documentation and Presentations skills.
  • Demonstrated work on several, critical, high-visibility projects simultaneously and independently.
