Job Summary

ALSE Tech Manages, performs, and schedules inspections, maintenance, and adjustments of assigned aircrew flight equipment (AFE), associated supplies, and inventory assets.

Principal Accountabilities

• Inspects, maintains, packs, and adjusts aircrew flight equipment such as flight helmets, oxygen masks, parachutes, flotation devices, survival kits, helmet mounted devices, aircrew ocular systems, anti-G garments, aircrew eye and respiratory protective equipment, chemical biological protective oxygen masks/coveralls, and additional chemical defense systems.
• Repairs and/or determines the feasibility of repair/replacement of fabric and rubber components, including protective clothing, thermal radiation barriers, flotation equipment, and parachutes.
• Places work orders for fabrication of authorized items.
• Performs other duties as requested.

Prior Military Aviation Life Support Equipment Training is required

• Two (2) or more years actual and recent experience in the repair, maintenance, modification and overhaul of equipment related to individual specialty codes.
• High school diploma or the equivalent is required.
• Completion of specialized courses is desired.
• The ability to read, write and to comprehend data is required.

Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of equipment related to individual specialty codes.
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory and a thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
• Working knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems.
• Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects and is required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks.
• The incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
• A working knowledge of aircraft maintenance safety requirements and the operation of portable fire-fighting equipment are required.

• Must be able to lift/push/pull minimum of 50 pounds
• Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day
• Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands
• Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders
• Must be able to communicate through e-mail and various software applications
• Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Must be able to pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification
• May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, etc
• Normal color vision is required.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license is necessary to obtain flight line driving privileges.

Work Environment:

• May work in aircraft maintenance hangar, shop or outside.
• Must be able to work in a shop that the environment is drafty, noisy and dirty.
• May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
• May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment, turbine and jet engine aircraft.
• May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles
• May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
• Will handle dirty parts and lubricants.
