Job Summary

Responsible to the immediate supervisor for the safe and efficient operation of all equipment and components in his/her specialty. The individual inspects, repairs, replaces, installs, adjusts, maintains, and performs necessary tests on high and low voltage utility systems, equipment, transformers, switchgear stations, substations, and distributing systems.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assigns, tracks and coordinates tasks and reviews for quality purposes.
  • Works from prints, diagrams, specification, and instructions covering emergency and scheduled repairs installation, testing, and inspection of work to be done on electrical utility systems, both high and low voltages; including but not limited to, distribution systems, alarm systems, and ups systems, as assigned
  • Analyzes, troubleshoots, modifies, installs, and repairs utility equipment and electrical circuits using prints, diagrams, and test instruments.
  • Tests, inspects, cleans, repairs, dismantles, adjusts, and replaces all electrical equipment, transformers, switchgear, control panels, regulators, and various other electrical apparatus which include high and low voltage switchgear, distribution systems, alarm systems, and ups systems, as assigned.
  • Assists and performs switching on electrical utility systems, placing blockings, grounds, locks, etc. on utility systems (high and low voltage), as required by operational protective procedures.
  • Works on power lines for the isolation or grounding of circuits, maintenance, and troubleshooting demands to maintain operation.
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports on electrical utility equipment, as required for maintenance programs on the basis of all information obtained through tests and preventive maintenance procedures and take corrective action, as required.
  • Performs protective inspections during facility additions or repairs so as to insure safe and continuous operation of electrical utilities systems and equipment, as required.
  • Tests, calibrates, and maintains protective devices on electrical utility systems and equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, repair, or replacement of electrical equipment on AC or DC systems and circuits.
  • Operates machines and power tools, erect scaffolds, perform rigging, and operate motor vehicles, as required.
  • Installs conduit, piping, wiring, and apparatus for maintenance of electrical utilities, systems and equipment and/or modification, rearrangement or substitution of existing equipment with new or old apparatus.
  • Observes all safety practices, procedures, and directives.
  • Notifies Facilities Manager when shutting off power that would affect the site.
  • Performs other related work, if qualified.
  • Supervises Electricians and other maintenance personnel as required.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ability to obtain/maintain Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Journeyman electrician’s license for the site's state or locality.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E regulations and guidelines. Certificate of completion or other documentation for a High Voltage Arc Flash and Electrical Safety training course covering regulations, guidelines, and real-world instruction on working and managing employees in a high voltage (above 600V) environment.
