Job Summary

Amentum is seeking a Waste Management Specialist for our industrial maintenance team in Greenville, SC! Typical work schedule may vary based on business demand. Holiday hours as needed to support production.


Responsibilities:

  • Package, label, and handle hazardous waste/material.
  • Prepare and deliver pre-labeled accumulation containers to the generating activities.
  • Maintain housekeeping and cleanliness requirements at the Hazardous Waste Storage Site
    Interface with Company Supervisory and customer personnel on a regular basis, responding to all oral/written requests, and performing other related duties as assigned.
  • Operate sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage, monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage, observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings, and tests results to determine load requirements.
  • Start and stop pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes, maintain log of operations and records meter and gas readings, give directions to wastewater treatmentplant attendants and sewage-disposal workers in performing routine operations and maintenance, and may collect sewage sample, using dipper or bottle and conduct laboratory tests, using testing equipment, such as colorimeter.
  • May operate and maintain power-generating equipment to provide steam and electricity for plant.
  • Control treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and for industrial use.
  • Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plant and dumps specified amounts of chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia, and lime into water, or adjusts automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water.
  • Start agitators to mix chemicals and allows impurities to settle to bottom of tank, turns valves to regulate water through filter beds to remove impurities, pumps purified water into water mains, monitors panel board and adjusts controls to regulator flow rates, loss of head pressure and water elevation and distribution of water.
  • Clean tanks and filter beds, using backwashing (reverse flow of water), repair and lubricate machines and equipment, using hand- and power tools, tests water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities, using colorimeter, turbidimeter, and conductivity meter. Work includes dumping chemicals such as alum into tanks to coagulate impurities and reduce acidity, recording data, such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, and water pressure.
  • May operate portable water-purification plant to supply drinking water, and purify wastewater from plant preparatory to pumping water into rivers and streams or city mains.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
  • Three years of experience performing mechanical maintenance on industrial manufacturing process/production equipment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have the ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.

  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.
  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.
  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.
  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.
  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.
  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.
  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.
  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in industrial mechanical, waste management, HVAC/R, manufacturing technology, or a related technical program.
  • Experience maintaining a Fanuc robotics automated production line, including specialized hydraulic presses, and driven conveyor systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting CNC machine tools, included but not limited to Mazak, Heller, Masco, IMPCO, Rosama and Toyoda.
  • Experience troubleshooting robotic systems such as Fanuc, ABB, etc.
  • Experience with alignments and timing machines using precision calibration tools.
  • Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing pumps, motors, gearboxes, supply and exhaust fans, power transmission components, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience using measurement tools such as micrometers, dial indicators, various type gauges, and calibers to set tolerances to OEM specifications.
  • Experience performing pipefitting, welding, fabrication and millwright related work.
  • Experience using a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
