Job Summary

Amentum is seeking a 1st shift Procurement Specialist to support our manufacturing maintenance team with procurement, inventory control, sub-contractor administration, administrative support, and purchasing in Lafayette, IN.

As a Procurement Specialist you will form and sustain efficient, positive working relationships with all levels of the organization. Work with outside sources to obtain quotes for parts and service needed. Write purchase orders for new and replacement parts as well as other materials needed in the maintenance process.

Responsibilities

  • Performs purchasing, receiving and inventory control tasks, including
  • Utilizes Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)Execute the purchase of parts and supplies via Maximo;
  • Tracks supplier invoices, match invoices to corresponding purchase orders and validate deliveries received;
  • Maintains records of on-hand inventory, performs cycle counts, verifies physical inventory accuracy, and performs database updates;
  • Maintains an effective inventory control system and related best practices to optimize inventory levels;
  • Ensures proper identification of received goods and their storage locations;
  • Takes proper precaution to avoid any product delays that may affect work order completion
  • Performs site materials management function in conformance with the requirements of the prime contract with the client;
  • Obtains quotes and works with vendors and subcontractors to expedite and track orders
  • Maintains files of requisitions, receiving reports and related inventory documents;
  • Responsible for the repair of parts by obtaining quotes for repair, shipping, tracking, and receiving back;
  • Provides cost estimates of potential tools from prints and budgeted quotes from outside vendors;
  • Packages, boxes, and provides shipping information for any equipment/parts needing repair per maintenance. This includes but not limited to assembly tooling, induction heaters, pneumatic tools, and torque tools;
  • Investigates, obtain quotes, and writes Purchase Orders per request from PIL's/engine programs. This includes Heaters, engine covers, pneumatic tools, and replacement parts for wrench blades;
  • Assists with the implementation of new tooling or modifications to existing tools by ordering materials, receiving materials, inputting work orders, and coordinating through the machine shop and or fabrication shop for completion in a timely manner;
  • Provides quote packages (drawings, specific details, etc.) to outside vendors for purchasing new tools or modification of existing tools
  • Coordinates the purchasing of parts from outside vendors by writing PO's, receive completed tooling, notify purchasing and once on site;
  • Assesses used parts for repair or replacement.
  • Operates Modula storage system and maintain information in the Modula software.
  • Runs weekly inventory and disbursement reports.
  • Participates as needed in special projects and support site maintenance requirements as requested.
  • Effectively communicates with the site management team and all customers to resolve systems/operations issues.
  • Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required.
  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
  • Maintains a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment, yet demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
  • 3 years’ experience in materials management, including using a computer to track material and information. Associates degree or technical diploma may substitute for 2 years’ experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of inventory control terminology, measures, and concepts.
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • This position may require a valid Driver’s License.
  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.
  • This position will require the ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.
  • This position may require overtime, various shifts, weekends, holidays and alternative work schedules. Work schedules can change based on critical business needs

Physical/Special Requirements:

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.
  • Some tasks will require the ability to walk extensively throughout facilities during a workday.
  • Able to stand continuously for 4 hours at a time.
  • Requires ability to read and understand information contained in a variety of documents or displayed on a computer screen.
  • Requires ability to use a variety of office equipment and to operate a computer keyboard to access data bases, to send/receive messages and to prepare documents.
  • Requires ability to attend meetings throughout the site and potentially travel to other Amentum, customer and/or vendor locations in the area, as well as some air travel to more distant locations.
  • Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings and presentations.
  • Demonstrated fluency in computer use including the full Microsoft product line.
  • Requires some moving of light to medium weight materials into desks, filing cabinets and other storage locations.
  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior warehouse, tool crib, or parts crib experience.
  • Experience with Material Handling Systems, Work Order / CMMS Systems, Hazardous Materials Systems, and/or crib systems.
  • Experience operating forklifts, or willingness to be trained at facility.
