Position: Head of Protein Homeostasis

Location: Brisbane or San Diego (Brisbane preferred)

Position Summary

The leader of Protein Homeostasis (PH) will be responsible for developing and implementing the vision and strategy for the PH Center of Excellence. They will partner with leadership in Small Molecule Drug Discovery and the Thematic Research Centers to drive PH programs towards the invention of new medicines. The leader will coordinate biochemistry, biophysical, cellular and molecular pharmacology, chemistry, proteomics, and structural biology activities necessary to drive the PH platform. The leader will inspire and develop talent to maintain a highly engaged and productive team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Protein Homeostasis Center of Excellence, which includes cross-functional teams dedicated to protein expression, structure elucidation, proteomics, chemistry, biophysics/biochemistry, and molecular/cell biology

• Influence and guide PH science to identify novel targets across disease areas including Oncology, Hematology, Immunology, Cardiovascular, Neuroscience, & Fibrosis

• Prioritize and leverage approaches to PH including CELMoDs, heterobifunctional degraders, intrinsic degraders, and emerging technologies for proximity-induced pharmacology

• Actively allocate and manage internal/external resources

• Conceptualize and define the PH future state vision with emphasis on novel pharmacological entry points, driving drug discovery and platform technology development

• Partner with leaders across our biology and functional network to identify and deliver therapeutic advances

• Collaborate across Small Molecule Drug Discovery to identify novel ligands through strategic screening approaches

• Engage at relevant governance forums

• Actively participate in evaluating PH relevant assets, technologies, and collaborations

• Lead team’s efforts in key academic and industry alliances

• Develop next generation of leaders utilizing intentional recruiting, retention, and career development strategies

Basic Qualifications

Master's Degree

20+ years of academic / industry experience

or

PhD15+ years of academic / industry experience

10+ years of leadership experience

Qualifications & Experience

• Ph.D. in Cellular/Molecular Pharmacology, Chemical Biology, Chemistry, Structural Biology, or related field

• >12 years of relevant experience in chemical biology and/or protein homeostasis

• >5 years leading scientific efforts in targeted protein degradation induced by monovalent or bivalent ligands

• Proven track record of delivering quality scientific innovation translating to the invention of development candidates

• Experience leading through others

• Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, and develop talent

• Proficient collaborative skills across drug discovery functions

• Significant insights related to chemical biology approaches preferred

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $241,434 – 301,792, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).

The starting pay takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation is decided based on demonstrated experience.
