Position Summary

This global position is responsible for all matters pertaining to Primary Logistics and Warehousing including Global Transportation, Temperature Control and External Manufacturing Services.

The incumbent will be accountable for developing global cross-functional strategies, programs, and policies to ensure a successful and compliant supply chain providing leadership and direction to Global teams based in the USA, Europe and Asia-Pac, ensuring their voice is represented across the corporation.

Working as a key member of the GDS Leadership Team, the incumbent will proactively recognize and address any technical, compliance, and regulatory issues associated with systems, processes, and product quality.


Key Responsibilities
Provide Strategic vision to the Function by effectively communicating the shared vision of Intercompany Operations to all stakeholders and build a high performance and patient focused culture.

Intercompany Operations is focused around the following core areas and activities:

  • Global Transportation and Temperature Control:

    • 4PL and Supplier Relationship Management of Global Transportation providers, ensuring Global Logistics Security for our products, managed through Logistics Incident Reporting and Trending.

    • Focused Supplier Strategy for Transportation, ensuring GLM act as a Strategic Liaison to the Sites, EXM, CSO, and API Groups.

    • Temperature Control: Protect Product and reduce temperature excursions, maintain compliance & quality to meet or exceed regulatory expectations, and Improve efficiency, performance & simplify by driving standardization, cost savings, and agility

  • Global Logistics Initiatives: Focused on creating and leading the future state vision of global logistics operations across the entire organization. This role has a global, end to end remit to advance the Global Logistics strategic roadmap

  • Global Storage: Manages all above market warehousing locations for intercompany movements. Includes all Supply Point locations for BMS sites and CMOs where we store APIs, Materials, Semi-finished and Finished products for all modalities

  • External Manufacturing Services:

    • ExM 3rd Party Customer Relationships & Contracts and shipments execution

    • Accountable for Operations on behalf of ExM at 3PL facilities and Transportation Providers as well as onboarding new partners

    • ExM Shannon Facility management

    • Inventory Control Activities to ensure a high level of oversight and reporting for all External Manufacturing owned inventory at internal and external locations

    • Supports execution of Global Activities impacting ExM network changes (Divestures, M&A, Business Model Changes, etc. )

  • Develop and implement strategic and operational plans for Global Logistics that addresses corporate mission, staff development, quality, regulatory requirements, customer needs and financial responsibility

  • Drive Innovation by identifying and fostering new opportunities for operational and financial improvement

  • Direct the development, implementation and maintenance of Logistics strategies that integrate the expertise of all line functions

  • Leads an organization of ~60 -75 professionals covering a total revenue of ~Rev ~$45 B (nearly totality of BMS’) through the movement of materials, semi-finished and finished goods at different levels

  • Communicates and ensures visibility of the Intercompany Operations, for all Compounds, throughout the organization to ensure alignment with various cross-functional teams

  • Accountable for ensuring that the work performed by the teams are accurate, timely, efficient, and compliant with corporate policies, SOPs, cGxPs, and other applicable

  • Represent Intercompany Operations at Global and Regional meetings ensuring alignment between internal and external stakeholders

  • Solve abstract problems across functional areas of the business. Identify and evaluate fundamental issues for major functional areas through assessment of intangible variables

  • Identify, recommend, and implement strategic global programs and/or systems to improve overall quality and/or results in cost savings for the company

  • Develop and maintain a supportive working relationship with internal and external groups to ensure a collaborative environment.

  • Align all work and resource management with a clear line of sight to the corporate mission, vision, philosophies, values, and strategic imperatives.

  • Recruit, employ, direct, and develop all departmental personnel. Manage current staff of international employees ensuring necessary growth and development consistent with company goals and policies

  • Accountable for shaping the future capabilities of the department including selecting, sponsoring, and developing talent for leadership roles

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Engineering or Business, preferably with focus on Operations / Supply Chain / Logistics

  • 15+ years of experience in Supply Chain or Logistics Management in the biotech/pharma industry, or comparable

  • 10+ years in managerial positions with exposure to project mgmt., cross-functional taskforces, planning and execution of strategic initiatives

  • Excellent knowledge of supply chain and logistics best practices, broad business acumen, strong problem-solving skills

  • Experience in team leadership, cross-functional stakeholder management

  • Self-starter who takes initiative and creates novel solutions to problems

  • Uses interpersonal skills and collaboration and helps to set a tone of cooperation within/across the work groups; coordinates own work with others; seeks opinions; values working relationships; when appropriate facilitates discussion before decision-making process is complete

  • Capable of building alignment with business partners including Quality, Manufacturing & Sourcing.

  • Technical Skills - Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, skills, equipment and procedures

  • Problem Solving - Anticipates problems; sees how a problem and its solution will affect other units; gathers information before making decisions; weighs alternatives against objectives and arrives at reasonable decisions
