Department

Our dynamic Development Department is responsible for raising over $600 million annually to meet MSF’s financial needs in order to carry out our mission effectively and efficiently.

Within the Development Department, the Foundations and Corporate Partnerships team is responsible for raising $40 million from companies and corporate and private professional foundations.

Project

The Foundation’s Stewardship Officer will join the Foundations and Corporate Partnership team. This new position will report to the Senior Development Officer, Foundations, and will be engaged in donor stewardship and relationship management for current and prospective foundation donors. The Officer will also support program and content information management for the Foundations and Corporate Partnership team, liaise with MSF-USA’s grants management team, organize events, and meet other project-based needs as they arise.

Tasks

  1. Donor Stewardship and Relationship Management

Relationship Management

  • Manage a portfolio of 100 foundations donors
  • Collaborate with the team in developing a range of communications for donors including correspondence, solicitations, and topic specific mailings and events invitations.
  • Track relationship activities in fundraising database.
  • Support development officers in the management of their portfolios
  • Complete and submit online proposals and reports

Knowledge Management and Content Creation:

  • In coordination with MSF’s Programs department and the Foundations and Corporate team
    • Manage and track the team’s programmatic information needs and requests (both narrative and financial) for soliciting and reporting purposes;
    • Research, compile, and organize program information to support the development of giving opportunities.
  • Manage Program information on MSF-USA and MSF’s international platforms to support High Touch fundraisers.
  • Create and update attachments needed for donor proposals and reports. These include compiling budget and narrative information and extracting relevant information from donor database.

Event and Donor Meeting Management (including virtual events)

  • In coordination with Foundations and Corporate Partnerships team, organize and manage virtual and in-person events for foundation and corporate donors. Coordinate with MSF and external parties as needed. Assist in content development.
  • Serve as the team’s liaison for all events including those that require coordination with other development units as well as with other MSF departments.

  1. Prospect Research

  • Under the guidance of the Sr. Development Officer and the Director of Foundations and Corporate Partnerships, serve as liaison with MSF’s Prospect Research unit, conveying the foundation team’s research needs and priorities.

  1. Administration

  • Contribute to the development of the Foundations and Corporate Partnership team’s annual plan and budget;
  • Attend staff meetings and office-wide debates, participate in information sharing across all departments, stay informed on important MSF topics, and contribute to the organization’s ongoing development;
  • Responsible for remaining updated on MSF and international news and for building a general overall knowledge of the organization, including regularly reading general MSF publications and attending office presentations and other meetings in order to understand and explain MSF programs and financial information;
  • Provide out of office coverage for fellow team members.
  • Other tasks, as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum three to five years of successful fundraising experience, preferably with US Foundations or corporations including proven track record with all aspects of donor stewardship.
  • Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent required.
  • Excellent oral and written English language communication skills to be able to share complex information to a variety of recipients.
  • Keen attention to detail, quality and accuracy.
  • Analytical mind and ability to compile and synthesize information from multiple sources.
  • Ability to raise questions, and exercise sound judgment and critical thinking.
  • Quick and adaptive learner, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work under pressure.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Enthusiastic team player with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and database software(s) such as Salesforce or Raiser's Edge.
  • Familiarity with and commitment to the principles and work of MSF.
  • Knowledge of international affairs and humanitarian issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Salesforce.
  • Project management skills; and
  • French and Spanish a plus.
