Primary Responsibilities:

  • Chief of Staff: Serve as a member of the legal leadership team to provide general leadership and support across the global department to promote strong internal departmental communications, strong team performance and team member well-being ​

  • Financial Management: Assist in managing the department’s financial budget and forecasting, operating within appropriate processes and controls and seek to achieve savings and establish predictability

  • Strategic Planning: in collaboration with the leadership team, help develop and execute strategic departmental efforts achieve both short- and long-term priorities

  • Department Effectiveness and Efficiency: Create metrics and trends on key data points aligned to the General Counsel's key objectives and strategic plan, as well as overall department effectiveness and efficiency​

  • Technology: Create a clear technology vision that spans the needs of the organization and ensure company-wide tools are being fully utilized by the Law Department.

  • External Resource Management: Help manage the department’s global outside counsel management program to harmonize the engagement, performance, improve efficiencies and reduce costs associated with the use of external legal resources

  • Best Practices: participate in industry corporate legal COO roundtables, industry benchmarking studies and create a network to provide best practices and recommendations to the General Counsel

  • HR: Along with the Human Resources department, assist in evolving the department’s hiring, onboarding, and talent development practices and initiatives

Education Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Required Experience and Skills:

  • At least 3 years of relevant legal operations experience within a large corporate legal department or other professional legal environment and at least 5 years of overall relevant work experience
  • Prior experience with developing and implementing work systems and processes related to legal and/or business operations​

  • Strong system administration management skills or background​

  • Prior experience with legal billing and other legal technologies as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office applications ​

  • A solid combination of operational, financial, and business acumen and a demonstrated ability to utilize data, metrics and analytics to design, implement and manage process improvements, personnel optimization and administrative and operational efficiency

  • Familiarity with SOX or other internal control framework

  • Attention to detail with excellent time management and multitasking/prioritization abilities

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills and the ability to build relationships within department and across all members of the company​

  • Comfortable leading in a matrix environment​
