Job Summary

Perform precision chemical cleaning, decontamination and passivation of fluid systems and functional component specifications. Working with technical procedures, prints, sketches, written and verbal instructions performs disassembly, rough and precision clean, refurbishment, reassembly, test and package or seal systems, components and associated hardware.

Essential Responsibilities:


1) Perform functional and pressure tests on various fluid systems and components.
2) Troubleshoot mechanical and electro-mechanical components as required making needed repairs and adjustments.
3) Operate and maintain various types of fixed and mobile equipment required for decontamination, cleaning and validation of components and systems.
4) Make required plumbing set-ups for precision cleaning operations and performs associated fabrication and installation.
5) Prepare, maintain, transport and transfer various chemical solutions required for precision cleaning operation.
6) Perform in-process sampling and particle counts to meet cleaning specifications.
7) Maintain logs, equipment records and other documentation relating to the cleaning, testing, and validation of systems and components.
8) Participate in training and examinations required to maintain cleaning mechanic certifications as required.

9) Perform duties in compliance with Federal, State, Local, NASA, and other governing regulations and requirements and Kennedy Space Center (KSC) energy management, conservation regulations, collective bargaining agreement, security, safety, hurricane and specialized programs or contractual requirements relating to the business of the section within the limits of established policy.
10) Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Work is performed in a variety of settings including an office environment, laboratory and outside with occasional exposure to Hazmat materials in proper containers. Occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must be able to work under deadlines.

Minimum Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of five years of experience in precision cleaning of fluid systems or components. Previous experience and required skills must include knowledge in mechanical and electro-mechanical fluid component assembly/disassembly; pneumatic, hydrostatic, hydraulic, cryogenic and electrical testing of components; drawings and procedures; use of cleanroom tools, equipment, measuring and testing instruments; and, experience in the operation of portable pumping equipment, driving and operating tractor-trailer units and chemical and solvent pumping units.

Must be able to achieve KSC level of proficiency and meet physical requirements in fuel handling, visual/micro-particle counter, confined space, respirator use, crane operations and heavy equipment operations. May require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

US citizenship is required for unescorted access to assigned work area(s). Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
