Job Summary

Amentum is seeking a Plant Operator for the Bluegrass Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plant Project located in Richmond, Kentucky.

Typical Responsibilities include:

• Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.
• Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations.
• May be required to work overtime or varying hours.
• Be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record.
• Work in close proximity to and or in a chemical demilitarization facility.
• May be assigned to function in a temporary lead capacity.
• Follow specific direction of Area Supervisor, lockout/tagout personnel or Control Room Operator as appropriate.
• Operate material handling equipment (electric vehicles, forklifts, pallet trucks, cranes, etc.).
• Perform minor maintenance as required.
• Monitor and operate automatic boilers, drum dryers, pumps, heat exchangers, fans, and industrial type equipment in general.
• Perform boiler water analysis as required.
• Load and unload raw materials and supplies such as propane and fuel oil.
• Monitor tank levels and process instrumentation, performing adjustments as required.
• Monitor and control operation of all functions related to various pollution abatement systems.
• Operate pumps, valves, controls and other operating devices as required to ensure all plant systems are operating properly.
• Communicate with Control Room in case of problems or malfunctions.
• Prepare equipment for maintenance as required.
• Operate equipment from control panels or use manually operated levers, switches, buttons, etc.
• Perform housekeeping as required.
• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly Resource Conservation and Recovery Act inspections, and support other chemical weapons agreement inspections and monitoring teams requiring access to chemical agents.
• Operate utility systems such as power system, uninterruptible power supply, plant and instrument air, fuel oil and hydraulics.
• Perform tagging operation in support of a LOTO program.
• Remove and replace containers used in collecting residue.
• Perform daily inspections of hazardous waste storage areas.
• Package, label, transport and store hazardous material.
• Monitor and control handling, labeling, and disposition of decontaiminated materials.
• Make exclusion area entries as necessary to perform duties as assigned.
• Handle hazardous waste and other types of process chemicals.
• Required to extract various process samples for laboratory analysis such as brine, ash, and water.
• Required to make confined space entries and perform hot work.
• Required to perform entries into work areas in various personal protective equipment categories to support plant operations.
• Operate equipment involved in residue handling operations.
• Monitor and control the operation of all functions related to bulk chemical storage area.
• Mix and prepare various chemical solutions.
• Operate industrial hazardous waste incinerators.
• Bring obvious deviations or inconsistencies to the attention of supervision.
• Properly respond to emergencies in accordance with established contingency procedures, including participating as a member of the HAZMAT or decontamination teams as requested.
• Must serve as an Emergency Response Team Member.
• Operate ACAMS/Minicams to monitor EONCS to verify agent free for processing.
• Stage munitions at the designated feeder line and process IAW BGCAPP (Standard Operating Procedure).
• Receiving EONCS in the CHB bay and completing Munitions Accountability paper work.
• Handling of leaking materials process with IAW BGCAPP Standing Operating Procedure.

Relocation Assistance Provided

This position is designated as a chemical duty position and is subject to the requirements of the Chemical Personnel Reliability Program (CPRP). As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents must favorably complete a personnel security investigation, urinalysis testing, medical exam and respiratory screening, and must meet and maintain personnel suitability and reliability requirements established by Army Regulation 50-6. Chemical duties for this position are:

• Require routine access to chemical surety materials.
• Issue proximity cards, personal identification numbers (PINs), keys, combinations, biometric codes, or any other mechanism that provides direct access to chemical surety material.

BGCAPP is subject to Army Regulations (AR 50-6 Chemical Surety Program and AR190-59 Unescorted Access Program) which govern persons performing work under the Chemical Personnel Reliability Program (CPRP) and unescorted Access Program (UAP). Eligibility to be placed in a CPRP or UAP position requires US citizenship. Employees must favorably complete a series of screenings to include but not limited to: a National Agency Check with Local Agency Check and Credit Check (NACLC) security investigation, drug/alcohol testing and medical examination.

All employees are subject to and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment for the duration of their assignment. Respiratory screening and the ability to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) may be required for this position. The ability to obtain/maintain access to the Blue Grass Army Depot is required.

Basic Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent and 1 years’ experience as an industrial plant operator in a power or chemical plant, hazardous waste incinerator, waste treatment facility, petrochemical plant, boiler, or utility system

Or

• 18 months working at chemical demilitarization site in a role requiring the operation of industrial plant equipment

Or

• 12 months as an NCRM Handler at an operating chemical demilitarization facility

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be a United States or naturalized citizen able to obtain and maintain Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP) site access
• Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment
• Must maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform the essential functions of the position, to include any depot or BGCAPP drill, contingency and/or emergency requirement
• Must be able to demonstrate good judgment and ability to read and comprehend explicit operating procedures and plant processes
• Must be able to demonstrate ability to review and maintain accurate records necessary to ensure conformity to established requirements in a highly regulated environment
• Ability to obtain and maintain position certification

• Technical or trade school in related field
• Ability to read and interpret prints, drawings, diagrams, and operating instrumentation manuals
• Experience in toxic or hazardous materials environment
• Forklift certification
