What you’ll be doing...

Verizon seeks a qualified Government Contracts Counsel to join its Federal legal team. This position will report to the Sr. Managing Associate General Counsel responsible for supporting sales to the federal government, and will support Verizon’s Public Sector subcontracting activities. The candidate will interface with key vendors, interpret and negotiate contract terms, and interact with Verizon senior management. You will manage multiple projects in a dynamic sales environment and develop key relationships and maintain a visible presence within Verizon’s Sourcing and Federal Sales organizations.

  • Negotiate subcontracts with commercial companies supporting Verizon federal contracts.
  • Provide legal advice and counsel on a broad spectrum of government contract and subcontract issues, such as teaming agreements, proposals, contracts and subcontracts.
  • Keep current on federal contracting and subcontracting compliance requirements issues, particularly requirements related to Supply Chain Risk Management, Buy American Act and Trade Agreements Act, utilization of small and disadvantaged businesses, and mandatory flowdowns and subcontractor certifications.
  • Assist in developing training material and educating Sourcing, Product, Sales, Proposals, Operations, and Contracts teams.
  • Advise the Federal Sales and support teams and perform general research and writing in support of a variety of government contract and compliance-related projects.

This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Bar membership and needed licenses.
  • Outstanding academic credentials.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal contracting and compliance statutes and regulations.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Five or more years of experience with federal government contracts.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiating, and oral and written communication skills.
