Purpose and Scope:

Performs organizational, intermediate level maintenance/modifications on military equipment, sub-systems, support equipment and related systems such as M1 tanks, M2/3 Bradley fighting vehicles, M113 series track vehicles, M88 recovery vehicles, AVLB bridge launchers, cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, pneumatic tools, and a wide assortment of wheel vehicles including trailers.

Essential Responsibilities:

1) Performs organizational, intermediate level maintenance/modifications on military equipment, sub-systems, support equipment and related systems such as M1 tanks, M2/3 Bradley fighting vehicles, M113 series track vehicles, M88 recovery vehicles, AVLB bridge launchers, cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and a wide assortment of wheel vehicles including trailers.

2) Diagnoses system malfunctions, isolate causes, and correct deficiencies.

3) Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using Technical Manuals (TM), lifting devices, hand and pneumatic tools.

4) Inspects, repairs, and replaces components, engines, transmissions, and sub-assemblies.

5) Trains team members in solving unusual maintenance problems by analysis and troubleshooting. Identifies parts in repair manuals and places order request for needed parts.

6) May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, may adjust and maintain machinery such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and any other related machinery.

7) Recommends revisions to maintenance procedures to improve efficiency and ensure quality workmanship.

8) Sets up and operates complex computer controlled automatic test equipment (ATE) to test and troubleshoot various components and assemblies of electronic equipment such as the Direct Support Electrical Test Systems (DSETS), modules which contain integrated circuits, and printed circuit boards and assemblies.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

High school diploma / GED. Requires verifiable rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent. Proficient in the use of mechanical practices and the associated Technical Manuals to perform troubleshooting, repair procedures and identify needed repair parts for the vehicle fleet. Disassembly, assembly, repair, adjustment and troubleshooting. Must maintain an appropriate Security clearance and pass annual physical. Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. Frequently lifts items weighing 40-45 pounds and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, or may include unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Position may require travel.

OCONUS contracts require: Ability to perform job duties up to a 72 hours per week. Must be able to lift 25 Lbs. continuously, 50 Lbs. intermittently. Must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions including dust and high temperatures in hazardous conditions. Position requires the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
