Job Summary

The Construction Safety Specialist Inspects and monitors various construction activities, hazardous operations or tasks, facilities, offices, work locations, systems, and equipment and to assure compliance with applicable local, EHS regulations. Advises management of appropriate safety criteria for the conduct of safe operations.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Responsible for overseeing the safety of construction and maintenance activities across the facility.
  • Conducts regular safety inspections in all work locations.
  • Inspects shop arrangements, machines, tools, equipment, structures, facilities etc. for safety hazards.
  • Recommends corrective action for safety discrepancies and follows up through line management.
  • Monitors activities for compliance with company, local, state and federal safety standards, codes, regulations and practices.
  • Investigates accidents to determine their cause, recommends corrective action to eliminate future similar accidents and prepares reports.
  • Checks for proper use of safety equipment such as: safety glasses, goggles, respirators and other protective clothing/equipment.
  • Checks for compliance with safe loads and material handling requirements.
  • Participates in safety committee meetings as required.
  • Provides surveillance of hazardous operations or tests as required by established procedures, manuals, instructions, or special requirements.
  • Familiarizes the organizations with the requirements for safety inspections, accident and incident investigations and the goals and objectives of the safety program
  • Assists in the preparation, development, and revision of safety procedures.
  • Develops and prepares reports as required.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested

Minimum Requirements

  • Certificate IV in safety
  • Five years related experience which includes safety inspection and accident investigation
  • Must possess working knowledge of the Australian Work Health Safety Act 2011
  • Must possess working knowledge of basic computer operation including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software
  • Must posses written communications skills
  • Drivers Licence
  • 5 years – in a similar role

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, Construction or Project Management or other relevant discipline.
  • Certified Cost Consultant (CCC), Certified Cost Engineer (CCE), Interim Cost Consultant (ICC), Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP) or Earned Value Professional (EVP)
  • Project management Certification (PMP, PRINCE2 etc.)
