Job Summary

The Marketing & Communication Manager is responsible for performance of marketing and communications activities, including scientific collaborations, business partnerships, community outreach, and promotion of Ames facilities and capabilities. Represents Amentum in relevant work with appropriate customer counterparts, with authority to make and follow through on commitments.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the department staff including ensuring staff is adequately trained; coordinate workloads, priorities, and schedules to ensure timely and effective completion of work; and monitors and evaluates staff performance.
  • Serves as an expert in public engagement, social media and emerging platforms.
  • Plans, organizes, and administers marketing/communication activities to meet customer and contract requirements.
  • Develops, implements, and enforces policies, plans, and procedures related to
    marketing/communications in accordance with best industry practices
  • Identifies and promotes development of innovative collaborations with respect to scientific research, technology development, technology transfer (e.g. licensing, software release etc.), and proposal development.
  • Leads efforts to enhance opportunities to develop business partnerships, institute
    consortiums, and support transfer of technology to and from industry.
  • Supports development of U.S. commercial space industry, including the commercial use of suborbital, orbital, and deep space locations.
  • Identifies mechanisms to support growth of the commercial space industry.
  • Develops, implements, and updates program or project public affairs plans, including
    production of detailed media plans coinciding with significant mission milestones, events, and scientific discoveries.
  • Oversees development and dissemination of information, services, and products with the goal of informing the science and education communities, media, and public.
  • Develops science, research, educational, and outreach tools, such as websites, newsletters, brochures, videos, apps, displays, and K-12 educational materials.
  • Implements internship programs focused on developing the next generation of scientists, including program formulation and outreach; recruitment and selection of student participants; and identification of mentors.
  • Coordinates and participates in outreach events, such as scientific meetings and educational conferences.
  • Coordinates Education Public Outreach (EPO) activities with the Office of Public Affairs and the Education and Outreach Division; ensures Amentum and subcontractor activities are consistent with NASA Headquarters EPO policies.
  • Supports program and project meetings, workshops, conferences, reviews, briefings, and technology interchange meetings.
  • Manages meeting operations, including escorting VIPs, arranging for foreign national
    participation, and preparing event documents and materials.
  • Coordinates development of new marketing/communications initiatives to meet customer objectives.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with other Amentum managers, the customer, subcontractor management, and other contractors as required.
  • Compiles and distributes reports in accordance with CDRL requirements.
  • Ensures subordinates conform with Amentum’s Quality Policy and perform duties in compliance with applicable Amentum and contract quality requirements.
  • Performs other position-related duties as assigned or requested

Minimum Requirements

  • US citizenship is required for unescorted access to assigned work area(s).
  • BA/BS degree in Engineering or relevant scientific/technical field.
  • 10+ years of applicable professional experience with increasing responsibility.
  • Supervisory experience required.
