What you will do -

As a Staff Human Factors Engineer you will apply knowledge of human performance and human factors techniques to the design and development of products offered by Emergency Care. You will need an advanced understanding of the theories, principles, and data associated with human performance capabilities and limitations (perceptual, cognitive, motor, bio-mechanical, and anthropometric) and the ability to apply this knowledge to the design, definition, evaluation, launch, and use of products across the range of the portfolio of resuscitation products. This includes primarily Class III medical devices and software products, as well as considerations involving third party products. As a Staff Human Factors Engineer will collaborate with clinical specialists, industrial designers, engineers, product and program managers, technical writers and vendors.

Primary roles & responsibilities:

  • Provide Human Factors support across the product lifecycle including support for customer and user needs identification, development of user and workplace profiles, usage scenarios and task analyses.
  • Participate in the development of requirements specification hardware and software design concepts (physical models and prototypes, graphical user interfaces, and product graphics), user interface design, usability testing, user error analysis, and post-launch outcomes analysis.
  • Perform Human Factors Engineering and User Experience activities within the constraints of a complex regulated environment and in partnership with Clinical, Regulatory and Agency teams.
  • Execute applicable responsibilities for the Usability Engineering Process.
  • Participates in developing the vision and ongoing improvement of Human Factors Engineering.
  • Provide human factors expertise across product range including identifying, planning, monitoring, and executing Human Factors activities for projects to ensure superiority usability.
  • Lead the development of a Human Factors best practices; provide in-house training and promote the importance of human factors engineering.
  • Assist in the translation of user needs and requirements into interaction/interface design solution concepts.
  • Work closely with Clinical team and other departments (marketing, product planning, engineering) to produce customer focused designs that not only meet user needs but also factor in business priorities and platform, architecture, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Participate in the evaluation of physical mock-ups and interactive prototypes of design concepts.
  • Plan and conduct end user evaluations of product concepts, analyze data, document evaluation methods and results; present design recommendations to the product team.
  • Plan and conduct design validation activities.
  • Use appropriate Human Factors techniques to work with end users to determine end user behavior, preferences, and usage models and integrate these into design concepts.
  • Prepare clear and effective oral and written reports of current status, progress and status of project, as required by project or department management.
  • Interact professionally at all levels throughout the company and with consultants and customers.
  • Provide oversight and collaborate with consulting firms to execute human factors activities on projects.
  • Maintain technical knowledge current with advancing technology related to emergency response resuscitation products and associated accessories. Complete required training and certifications.
  • Engage in continuing education programs in order to keep current and broaden knowledge in selected discipline.

What you need-

  • Bachelor's Degree is required (BS in Human Factors, Usability Engineering or Cognitive/Experimental Psychology or other related field of study is strongly preferred)
  • 4+ years’ experience is required (direct experience in Human Factors Engineering and evaluation of medical, business or consumer products is highly preferred)
  • Medical device Human Factors experience (Class II or III) highly preferred
  • Experience with FDA Human Factors Guidance and regulatory requirements for Medical Devices highly preferred.
  • Experience leading projects toward compliance of IEC 60601-1-6 Usability Collateral preferred

If this role is filled within Colorado this is the salary range, other locations may have alternative salary ranges; $83,700 - $137,200 Salary + 8-14% Bonus + Benefits (Health, Vision, Dental, 401K, Tuition Reimbursement, Employee Assistance Program, Wellbeing Program, Employee Stock Purchase Program)
