What you’ll be doing...

This Network Security engineering position will be part of the Verizon GMN Vulnerability Management team. The selected candidate will be responsible for building, deploying and supporting network vulnerability scanners and back end infrastructure. The team leverages VMWare to provide virtualization, stability and scalability. This role will provide second level support on this platform and will work directly with product vendors on enhancements, patching and break fixes. It is important that this resource is able to build strong business relationships with internal peer organizations in Network Planning, Maintenance Engineering, and Global Network Operations to ensure ongoing success of the platform and that we maintain visibility across all network segments. Standard work week is 8AM to 5PM with occasional off hours support as necessary.

In this remote role, you'll work from home with occasional in-person trainings and meetings.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or three or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in managing VMWare cluster virtualized environments with attached storage arrays, managing relational SQL databases, Linux/UNIX, and server hardware.
  • Experience with network routing, ACL’s and port filtering, subnetting, CIDR notation - IPv4 & v6.
  • Experience with building and managing Linux, Red Hat, CentOS.
  • Experience working with automation tools such as Ansible or Puppet.
  • Scripting skills (i.e. PERL, Python, bash, etc.)

Even better if you have:

  • Experience with common network services such as DNS, TCP/IP, DHCP and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with server performance tuning and monitoring tools to help maximize system availability, avoid unscheduled outages and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Knowledge of security best practices with prior responsibilities of protecting information assets.
  • Ability to learn a new technology and drive it from ideas through deployment and integration to fully automated and operational.
  • Ability to multitask, take direction, prioritize, and manage multiple activities / tasks to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to document processes and procedures. Confluence, Jira.
  • Must have strong business acumen and the ability to identify key issues and their impact in a broad business context, propose options and recommendations on key issues or products.
  • Oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Ability to present and communicate to both superiors and peers.
  • Experience with management of scanning security technologies including Tenable Nessus scanners.
  • Familiarity with various network and host-based security applications and tools, such as network and host assessment/scanning tools, network and host based intrusion detection systems, and other security software packages.
  • Working knowledge of one or more cloud environments.
  • Strong knowledge about relevant security industry solutions and developments for security technology within scope of infrastructure and vulnerability management.
