What you’ll be doing...

You will be part of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) group, assisting with the administration of Verizon’s ERM program. In this role you will be overseeing policies, processes, people and technology to identify and mitigate financial, operational, legal, regulatory and reputational risks. As an ERM subject matter expert, you will partner with business leaders and take a key role in developing and supporting Verizon’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance program. You will be assessing business controls for operating effectiveness, developing and conducting risk assessments, documenting processes, workflows, and providing recommendations to executive leadership on how to reduce risk and strengthen Verizon’s control environment. Your work will help us improve our process and come up with ways to make your control environment even stronger. Come help us keep our Finance team running better every day.

  • Supporting the development of an enterprise-wide ESG disclosure governance program to ensure all metrics disseminated to the public are complete and accurate.
  • Documenting processes/workflows to identify gaps and provide process enhancement recommendations.
  • Performing assessments of active controls to evaluate if they are operating effectively to mitigate regulatory risk.
  • Assisting with the development, documentation and implementation of ESG / climate control and disclosure frameworks in a manner that fulfils the mission and strategic goals of the organization while complying with regulatory guidance.
  • Tracking compliance metrics and activities and providing executive reporting and status updates to senior leaders.
  • Reviewing and validating pending non-financial metric and ESG disclosures to evaluate their completeness and accuracy.
  • Implementing and managing a Governance, Risk Management and Compliance (GRC) tool to facilitate the testing of all active controls and remediation of identified gaps.
  • Using data mining results, statistical analysis and other techniques to assess the effectiveness of system controls and perform testing as needed to identify root-cause issues and formulate improvement recommendations for senior management.
  • Providing recommendations on how to address any identified gaps or risk areas of controls that are not functioning as intended.
  • Evaluating ways to enhance Verizon’s control environment to address current and developing threats.
  • Managing frequent, ad hoc requests from the business for advice/assistance regarding controls and compliance.
  • Leading control training programs, including training of business personnel and/or functional teams as needed to ensure compliance.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations communicating risk areas and mitigation efforts.
  • Developing digital tools to streamline and automate internal control processes where applicable.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Math, or Information Systems or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in Audit, Risk Management, or Operational Assurance.
  • Experience in operational compliance, business controls or Finance.
  • Knowledge of statistics, reporting and analytical tools.
  • Experience in Project management.
  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 25% of the time.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Math, or Information Systems.
  • A Professional certification (CPA, CMA, CIA, CISA, CFE).
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound and balanced judgment.
  • Knowledge of climate frameworks.
  • Knowledge of risk frameworks (COSO, NIST, ISO, COBIT etc.)
  • Experience in data mining tools and data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Qlik).
  • Experience in interpreting and implementing policies and processes to ensure a strong control environment.
  • Experience in leveraging auditing principles and methods to evaluate policies, processes and systems to identify business risks and control gaps.
  • Knowledge of compliance standards and frameworks including Sarbanes Oxley, SOC 1 (SSAE 18), SOC 2/3 (Trust Services Principles), ISO (27001, 27017).
  • Demonstrated organizational and executive communication skills.
  • Experience in using G-Suite tools to collaborate on deliverables.
  • Telecommunications industry experience.
