Eaton’s Aerospace Sector, Fluid Electrical Distribution Division is currently seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Beltsville, MD facility.

Position Overview:

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer supports a world-class manufacturing organization by leading the development and fabrication of tools and fixtures while optimizing processes and work instructions to ensure a safe and lean operation. The role has a heavy focus on reducing waste, cost and inefficiencies, while creating standards, increasing value and employee engagement.

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting plant leadership in achieving business and financial goals by developing and maintaining robust manufacturing processes and leading the lean transformation across the organization. Additional responsibilities include executing the organization’s strategic plan consistent with federal, state, and local regulations, established industry standards, and customer requirements as well as tooling layout, design and implementation to production, support production team with process improvements & troubleshooting, work with product design on new product tooling & processes, factory layout, and continuous improvement activities (Kaizen events, use of Six Sigma tools, 5S etc.).

In this function you will:

  • Lead continuous improvement and lean implementation using Eaton Continuous Improvement Framework (CIF) to eliminate waste, reduce process variations and deliver products to customer’s expectations. Lead/facilitate kaizen events including the Value Stream Mapping Events, process improvements, and strategic initiatives in collaboration with the High-Performance Work Teams (HPWT).
  • Identify and resolve opportunities, gather and analyze information, develop and implement action plans to improve efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Develop and maintain robust, cost efficient manufacturing processes and product structures consistent with lean manufacturing practices. Understand shop capacity planning related to equipment, processes, and manning. Must be mindful of process and test capabilities and recognize organizational core competencies.
  • Determine Root Cause and Corrective Actions to resolve issues involving discrepant product or material.
  • Manage projects and conduct project reviews as needed to ensure successful and timely completion, within budget; communicate changes and progress status.
  • Implement methods and practices to reduce variation. Demonstrate ability to understand source(s) of variation and identify impact of tolerance stacks in assemblies.
  • Participate in new product development projects using ProLaunch as a tool to articulate deliverables and a vehicle to commit to schedules. Act as manufacturing liaison for products from inception through shipment to customer. Interact with Design Engineering, Operations and Supply Chain teams to ensure design for manufacturability of new products. Participates in design review process.
  • Assist in the composition of Capital Appropriation Requests (including payback and net present value analysis) for acquisition of equipment to support emerging and existing technologies as required.
  • Assist leadership team and others in performing workload analysis and resources optimization. Extracts data from ERP systems as needed.
  • Support Environmental Health and Safety projects to promote a Zero Incident Safety Culture.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years of experience in mechanical design.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates that currently reside within 50 miles of the Beltsville, MD facility will be considered.
  • All positions require use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in arms regulations. All applicants must be U.S. Persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. Person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee.
