The Senior Category Manager, External Manufacturing role is part of the global team responsible for the procurement of externally manufactured drug products and finished packaging (Large and Small Molecules). The Senior Category Manager will also be responsible for developing and implementing strategic sourcing solutions for clinical and commercial supply.

Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Implement high value sourcing strategies appropriate for all phases of the product lifecycle, supporting development, commercial and mature product requirements; early clinical phase, full development, and launch requirements.

  • Implement sourcing and value development roadmap and initiatives; contribute to strong supplier relationship management, including selective strategic partnerships with GPS Operations and External Manufacturing support of Contract Manufacturers.

  • Implement sourcing projects, supplier negotiations, and supplier relationship opportunities to implement best in class sourcing and procurement for this category. - Contribute to annual budgeting with year to year standard costs, budget variances and PPV metrics.

  • In conjunction with the Business Partners, jointly manage supplier relationships and conduct business reviews to ensure all business objectives and long-term goals are met. (Including business process improvements and cost of goods reduction opportunities).

  • Conduct rigorous analyses of data and gather critical market/supply base information for Drug Products make vs. buy decisions. In conjunction with finance, perform cost modeling and total cost/value of ownership analyses.

  • Work with external manufacturing operations stakeholders, Site Procurement and Global Procurement liaisons to ensure compliance to global & site specific policies, processes, and standards.

  • Plan, coordinate, and administer the operational, financial, administrative, and technical functions of the sourcing & procurement process.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of technical and business experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Global Procurement, External Manufacturing Management, and/or Drug Product functions.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Life Sciences, Business, Supply Chain, Procurement or related field required.

  • Background in Continuous Improvement area with Lean and Six Sigma certification / training

  • Demonstrates strong negotiation skills using sound sourcing principles and a fact-based approach. Can respond appropriately to unanticipated situations.

  • Ability to effectively communicate to a diverse audience at multiple levels within the company through various formats i.e. presentations, written proposals /reports/ correspondence, leading meetings, face to-face dialogue etc.

  • Fully understands the methodology, process and guidelines for conducting and implementing an efficient/effective sourcing project that is aligned with global policies and procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA degree preferred but not required.

  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or APP Certification a plus.
