PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Through the use of technology and employing continuous improvement strategies, the Supervisor Employee Services will lead a diverse team of 20 in providing outstanding service to all 13,000 CP employees. The Supervisor of Employee Services will assist the manager on all functions including employee life cycle event transactions, employee inquires, audits, prioritizing workflow, escalating concerns for Internal/External customers, overseeing all processes and transactions to ensure data is accurate and timely, and ensuring payroll control adherence for Employees. In addition, HR services are delivered based on customer requirements, government legislation, and delegation of authority, company policy, and fiscally responsible practices.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Working directly with unionized employees to establish self-managed work teams and provides guidance and support to employees creating and sustaining an empowered and engaged workforce;
  • Resolving and/or escalating as appropriate, issues associated with Employee Services;
  • Conducting stand up whiteboard meetings, efficiency tests and process compliance audits;
  • Monitoring workflow to ensure service level commitments are being met;
  • Dealing with errors/issues arising from unionized workforce appropriately and immediately;
  • Working with Administration/Staffing to ensure there is adequate coverage;
  • Acting as a resource to the staff in relation to processes and systems required to perform functions;
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements;
  • Identifying gaps in Employee Services training/ knowledge reporting same to the Manager, Employee Services;
  • Providing input on production standards and metrics as well as providing expertise to support achievement of service level agreements;
  • Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and CP policies.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree preferred and/or 2 years’ railway operations experience;
  • Knowledge of the following computer applications would be considered an asset;
  • SAP HCM;
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational, and troubleshooting skills;
  • Must be able to work with vast array of employees and be adaptable;
  • Ability to build a solid team and influence the people to strive for success and move to the next level;
  • Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues;
  • Ability to exercise innovation, analytical, persuasion & influence skills in solving problems;
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external customers;
  • Ability to manage conflict and function as part of a team, using tact to influence and persuade others;
  • Ability to influence up to Stratum 3 by intelligent use of communication skills.
