We are in search of a creative and ambitious Marketing & Outreach Specialist to join our remote team, with energetic members located near Pittsburgh, PA and Morgantown, WV. As a passionate member of our Strategic & Technical Outreach Support team, you will play a valuable part in supporting and executing a wide range of projects and programs around technology marketing and outreach, winning proposals, inventions and technology promotion, and entrepreneurial training and development activities. Support will also be directed to furthering the Lab’s key strategic initiative.

This work supports the Research Innovation Center (RIC) at the National Energy Technology Lab (NETL) on the Research Support Services (RSS) contract. NETL is part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory system and supports the mission to advance the energy security of the United States. NETL implements a broad spectrum of energy and environmental R&D programs that will return benefits for generations to come.

You must be a people-person who loves technology and a fast-paced environment. And you enjoy working on the edge of innovation, devising methods of getting messages out about inventions that are not yet commonly understood. You’ll support innovators in the Research Planning and Delivery and Research Partnerships & Technology Transfer directorates, who have the mission to transfer new technologies from the laboratory to the marketplace, transforming research into new products and companies so inventions benefit the greatest number of people as quickly and efficiently as possible. At NETL, researchers work every day to develop technology solutions to difficult problems.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Designing creative and attention-grabbing internal and external communications, e.g., emails and intranet and website pages
  • Planning, executing, and facilitating internal and external meetings and events, including forming presentation designs and workshop agendas, all while meeting budget requirements.
  • Designing and implementing the use of various electronic forms, e.g., surveys, requests for activities or participation, meeting registrations
  • Architecting winning proposal designs and content, including effective win themes and eye-catching graphics
  • Identifying opportunities to improve proposals and associated processes to increase the Lab’s win rate, which might include expanding resources for proposing researchers and their teams
  • Enhancing technology promotion efforts, including marketing materials, web presence, or other tools and events to get the word out
  • Supporting the Lab’s initiatives to expand its entrepreneurial culture, including planning and executing researcher training and workshops (e.g., Energy I-Corps), preparing learning materials, and marketing commercialization success stories
  • Working directly with the national laboratory’s researchers and their teams
  • Serving various area teams by listening, learning, and then solving their business operations challenges, e.g., creative software tools
  • Ensuring team deliverables to the client are of high quality and provided on time.
  • Evaluating, streamlining, sharing, and then continually improving business processes through better use of data, technology tools, etc.
  • Engaging in the Lab’s key strategic initiatives, supporting efforts in business development, outreach events, and addressing other marketing needs

Required Experience, Skills, and Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, social sciences, STEM, or related field and 4 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Proven skills in program planning and project management principles and methodologies
  • Proficient in Microsoft SharePoint, Teams, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
  • This position will require extensive interface with all levels of the federal client and potential collaborative partners, so excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • The complexity of information to be managed will require excellent organization and documentation skills; attention to detail is a must; and an ability to troubleshoot, resolve administrative problems, and quickly respond to inquiries.

Preferred Experience, Skills, and Education:

  • Direct experience working across organizational centers with the ability to understand fundamental and applied scientific and technical research and apply it to real world applications.
  • Experience in engineering or technical research and technology commercialization is desired; as is previous experience working with government organizations and laboratories.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $52,650.00 - $81,000.00 - $109,350.00
