This position is a marketing leadership role with a focus on downstream marketing strategy and execution. The Director, Downstream and International Marketing defines and delivers commercialization models for all markets, and across all product franchises, in collaboration with other marketing team members and cross-functional partners. This individual is responsible for developing close, constructive relationships with the field sales organization, including the area directors, regional managers, key opinion leaders, and key customers to fully understand product performance and customer needs.

  • Leads Marketing Associates and Product Managers to develop short- and long-term strategies to drive growth and market share of entire product portfolio
  • Leads commercialization planning and strategy for all product launches
  • Decision maker on matters related to downstream initiatives, direction and/or strategy along with international commercialization
  • Oversees and executes on downstream product marketing strategy for the entire Sustainability Solutions portfolio to achieve divisional revenue goals within allocated budget
  • Leads the commercial pricing strategy for the division (post-launch), including mitigating price erosion, managing rebate models, and standardizing methods for facilitating cross-divisional and Flex financial deals for the field to leverage
  • Oversees the selection of growth targets for international markets, including product prioritization, early commercialization assessment, and on-going support for the in-country sales managers
  • Aligns cross-functional leaders on strategy and execution plans including all internal stakeholders
  • Align and influence sales organization on strategy and execution through annual marketing plan
  • Work with Integrated Business Planning team to identify and address gaps within the business
  • Hires, coaches and develops marketing personnel, ensuring appropriate marketing competencies are developed, creates and develops plans to develop marketing excellence and identify opportunities for growth for all talent
  • Leads cross-functional launch teams to successfully introduce new products into the market, developing innovative marketing plans including positioning and messaging, segmentation, pricing, account targeting, promotion, and field and customer education
  • Develops product strategies and value propositions that create consumer engagement and loyalty
  • Provides advice and counsel to senior business leaders about strategic opportunities to grow brands and financial results
  • Monitors sales and marketing trends and makes recommendations for enhancing penetration and share growth
  • Collaborates with customers, marketing intelligence and third-party sources to monitor, understand and respond to competitive product performance, branding, messaging, and tactics
  • Cultivates key customer relationships, working productively with physicians and the field sales organization to gain market insight, improve clinical practice, implement programs, and drive product preference and market growth
  • Works strategically with sales force to create demand, enable sales, increase awareness and drive market share for assigned product responsibilities
  • Partners with finance and upstream marketing partners to monitor and manage pricing to achieve divisional revenue goals within allocated budget
  • Partners with the convention team to set convention strategy and effectively leverage conferences within an integrated marketing plan
  • Leads Medical Education team to deliver alternative solution programs for customers, as well as value-based continuing education to healthcare providers
  • Participates in key customer visits to represent product portfolio
  • Partners with Corporate Accounts and Health Care Solutions teams to determine optimal GPO/IDNs relationship and strategy
  • Adhere, without exception, to Corporate compliance and ethics policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree required; emphasis in marketing or related discipline preferred
  • Minimum 10-12+ years experience in marketing or related; product/brand marketing, sales, or R&D in medical, pharmaceutical, or other relevant industry highly preferred
  • Minimum 4-5+ years management experience
  • Demonstrated strength in strategic thinking / market analysis /competitive analysis / consumer behavior
  • Fundamental understanding of how to conduct market research
  • Strong mentorship and demonstrated leadership capabilties
  • Strong communication / presentation skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Strong financial acumen related to conducting ROI, NPV, TCO and other analyses
  • Must possess excellent working knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet and e-mail applications
  • Must have ability to effectively lead / manage a team of 8-10+ direct reports
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with technical Stryker employees and vendors
  • Must possess unwavering ethics & integrity in a competitive and demanding work environment
  • Must be detail oriented and possess conceptual/creative thinking skills

Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and establish (and re-establish) priorities for self and team
