Job Description:

Leidos is seeking candidates for Senior Clinical Research Director for the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence (TBICoE) Clinical Affairs Branch, Dissemination Branch, Research Branch and Mission Support office. TBICoE is a component of the Defense Health Agency (DHA). TBICoE is a division of the Research and Engineering Directorate (R&E). R&E is a Directorate of DHA. DHA is a Federal Program within the Department of Defense (DoD). TBICoE, known previously as the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC), is a congressionally mandated multi-site research, dissemination and knowledge translation program, charged with advancing the traumatic brain injury state of the science and clinical standards, established in 1992. TBICoE’s mission is to conduct congressionally mandated traumatic brain injury (TBI) clinical research investigations, surveillance, clinical tool development, and dissemination of TBI education to DoD medical personnel, service members, including Guard and Reserve, and veterans with TBI, as well as their families. This multifaceted approach to TBI is best served with coordination between divisions, offices and network sites to advance the state of the science for TBI.

Primary Responsibilities

Qualified candidates must have the ability to function independently within a clinical research environment with a high degree of professionalism and clinical judgment required. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with staff at all levels to foster collaborative research activities required. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Ability to facilitate and present information to small and large groups as well as the flexibility to re-prioritize quickly required. Must have a high level of competence in clinical investigations, administration and education. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary health care team is required. Knowledge and experience with military health system, combat/deployment issues, and psychological health issues in the military are highly desired. Knowledge and experience with brain injury is required. S/he must adhere to legal, professional and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality and privacy.

Basic Qualifications

  • Professional degree [MD, PhD, MD/PhD, or relevant terminal doctorate degree] in related health or medical field.

  • Experience within clinically appropriate systems of care may be accepted in lieu of educational minimums.

  • Minimum 5-10 years of training or experience in clinical and/or research activities in TBI required.

  • 5-10 years of experience in research as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications and presentations required.

  • 2-5 years management experience preferred.

  • Prior experience within the DoD/VA systems of care preferred. Optional/Not Required.

  • For personal service employees, the Contractor employee, as applicable, maintains current license to practice in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands, or any US territory that allows for the independent practice of clinical services. This license must be current and unrestricted (not subject to restriction pertaining to the scope, location, or type of practice ordinarily granted to other applicants for similar licenses in granting jurisdiction).

  • Physical Capabilities: Requires sitting for long periods as well as some walking, standing, bending and carry up to 25 pounds.

  • Supervisor experience.

  • Ability to work in an office, clinical and hospital environment.

  • The incumbent may encounter work with patients who are confused, agitated and/or combative.

  • Must be available to travel locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

  • Experience and proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to work both independently and as a valuable team member and communicate verbally and in writing.
