What You Will Do:

As a Senior Manager for Applied Research, you will lead the Applied Research department for the Foot and Ankle Business Unit and together with his/her department staff will be responsible for the design verification of newly developed Foot and Ankle devices or other Trauma and Extremities related devices and for determining design verification related compliance of existing (legacy) Foot and Ankle devices. The scope of this role includes the management of direct reports, organizational deliverables, budgetary management, regulatory support and technical duties to ensure and enhance motivation, efficiency, compliance and the unit´s alignment with business goals at all times.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Ensure alignment of departmental goals with divisional goal setting
  • Partner up with general management, R&D NPD management, Technical Office Management, PMO, CQR management, AO management and GQ&O management.
  • Coordination of planning, execution and documentation of design verification (product safety testing) in the course of new trauma product development and legacy care/sustain engineering activities.
  • Ensure that Good Laboratory Practice standards are continuously followed.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of scientific and clinical backup of verification methods used.
  • Ensure continuous compliance to key pillars set forth in ISO 17025, guiding accredited laboratories.
  • Ensure availability of proper and functional equipment infrastructure of biomechanical labs.
  • Ensure functional and standards compliant procedural infrastructure (DQIs, DQFs).
  • Ensure regulatory compliant test documentation suitable for product clearance in all markets.
  • Ensure proper staffing, project focus, prioritization and deliverables timeliness in strong collaboration with PMO and other functions.
  • Ensure proper investment, budget and staff planning based on divisional and GQ&O planning input.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of processes in terms of compliance and efficiency.
  • Lead the team and team culture striving for high engagement, motivation, diversity, efficiency and performance.
  • Extend and maintain a proper network of external laboratory and analyses service partners.
  • Partner up with Foot and Ankle marketing to extend our scientific study portfolio. Ensure sound research and publication with external partners of choice, preferably in US.

What You Need

  • BS in Material Science, Biomedical Engineering or related field. Advanced degrees preferred.
  • 10+ years of related experience
  • 6+ years of management/leadership experience
