This is a laboratory based position, reports directly to the Head of Discovery & Translational Proteomics within the Small Molecule Drug Discovery organization. The candidate is expected to work effectively in a highly collaborative matrixed environment and interface with leading scientists in Oncology, Immuno-science, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular, and Fibrosis discovery biology areas, Medicinal Chemistry as well as translational researchers and champion proteomics methodologies / modalities to help solve complex drug discovery & translational research questions. The successful candidate is also expected to bring on board and apply leading edge proteomics methods like “Single Cell Proteomics” to discovery & translational research questions. The candidate is expected to spend at least 60% of their time performing proteomics experiments alongside their team as well as interface with the larger proteomics team.

Key Responsibilities

  • The candidate needs to have good understanding of biochemistry and biology to help articulate the problem statement, communicate with key stakeholders and bridge across matrixed teams.

  • A demonstrated ability to convert datasets to usable knowledge and utilize it to answer complex biological questions across the Drug Discovery Translational Research continuum.

  • An established track record and significant experience in articulating the need for proteomics as well as successfully applying proteomics to discovery, translational, clinical discovery space.

  • Deep experience developing, deploying and utilizing innovative proteomics techniques / workflows to characterize complex proteomes (including post-translational proteomes) to enable discovery, translational and/or clinical research activities is absolutely necessary.

  • Significant hands-on experience with developing, optimizing and applying next-generation proteomics and protein mass spectrometry methods such as DIA/SWATH, DDA, label free profiling, TMT, MRM, PRM to name a few. Demonstrated ability to develop innovative mass spectrometry based methods for deep unbiased / targeted proteome level analyses.

  • Experience with proteome level post-translational modification analyses (e.g. glycosylation, acetylation/methylation) is highly desirable.

  • Deep “hands on” experience with proteomics analytical instrumentation (latest generation, nano-chromatography and mass spectrometry), associated workflows, and data processing software packages is a must.

  • Experience with proteomics workflows automation from sample preparation to nano-LC/MS and laboratory instrument data management is highly desirable.

  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of proteomics design of experiments, LC/MS proteomics data processing and subsequent data analyses. Detailed understanding of proteomics related bioinformatics and associated software packages is required.

  • Experience and ability to successfully interface with bioinformaticians and biostatisticians is a must to enable in-depth proteomics data analysis and achieve superlative outcomes for programs.

  • Computational skills and basic understanding of biostatistics and programming is desirable.

  • Familiarity with other “omics” and some experience in building synergies to achieve integrative omics outcomes would be a plus.

  • Proficiency in applying classical protein biochemical techniques (protein fractionations, chromatography etc.) and most up to date proteomics techniques is expected and familiarity with basic cell culture techniques and standard molecular biology techniques is highly desirable.

  • Additionally, experience with handling human as well as animal biomatrices (including tissues, plasma …) is highly desirable.

  • Overall, excellent lab skills and lab etiquette are crucial and required to be successful in this position.

  • The candidate must have expertise with compiling and reviewing lab work practices and maintain regular scientific records in terms of laboratory notebooks.
