At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision – transforming patients’ lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease – and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry – each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.

We are seeking a scientist with experience in mammalian protein expression to join the Protein Science group in the Discovery Biotherapeutics department in Cambridge, MA. The Discovery Biotherapeutics group supports programs across all BMS therapeutic areas, but works most closely in Mechanisms of Cancer Resistance, Cardiovascular and Immunoscience related therapeutics. The qualified candidate will be responsible for protein expression in transient and stable cell lines and will play a major role in support of the biotherapeutic discovery efforts at BMS. Activities include expression of discovery-enabling reagents, traditional candidate biotherapeutics, and highly engineered non-canonical biotherapeutics. Ideal candidates have a problem-solving mindset and are interested in contributing to program advancement. Our teams also make use of high throughput methods and automation to enhance productivity where possible.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Protein expression in support of early to late stage discovery of novel biotherapeutics
    • Mammalian protein expression using both transient transfection and stable cell lines (HEK and CHO) in shake flasks and bioreactors
    • Stable CHO cell line generation and single cell cloning/sorting
    • Expression vector design
  • Implementation of new expression systems and technologies
  • Troubleshooting for challenging expression entities
  • Help drive our strategy for producing and characterizing proteins to support various stages of the Discovery process
  • Great data management, interpersonal and data sharing skills in a team environment are important
  • General knowledge or downstream experience in Protein Purification and Characterization is desirable but not requisite.

Qualifications:

  • Candidate should have a B.S. or M.S. in Biology, Engineering or a related field with at least 5-8 years of relevant experience in an industry setting.
  • Experience with Mammalian protein expression in both shake flasks and bioreactors (Wave or stir tank) is required
  • Experience with stable cell line generation is highly desired
