Job Summary

Amentum is searching for a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machinist to join our team in Ijamsville, MD.

As a CNC Machinist, you'll be interpreting sketches and 3D models for a variety of machined parts and assisting other shop employees and engineers in the assembly of prototype parts, equipment and test fixtures.

What you bring to the position:

  • You will be well-versed in fabricating parts for prototype equipment, working from complicated engineering drawings, sketches and 3D models, written or verbal instructions with the capability of holding strict tolerances.
  • You will be competent with CAM programming software, preferably GibbsCAM.
  • You will have the demonstrated ability to use various hand tools such as drills, sanders, and grinders.
  • You have safety in mind, adhering to all Company health, safety, quality assurance, and security programs.
  • You consistently work safely without presenting a direct threat to self, or others

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a rounded training in machine shop practices and procedures.
  • A minimum of 5 years of job-related experience or equivalent.
  • Operating knowledge of machining tools, skilled in setting up and running lathes and milling machines - manual and numerically controlled machinery preferred.
  • Must have full capacity of setup and tooling selection as well as programming capability of CNC machine tools.
  • Must possess good mathematical skills, blueprint / drawing reading and shop layout.
  • Experienced in machining all types of materials - aluminum, steels, titanium, monel, brass/bronze, G-10 fiberglass, composites, wood, foams, delrin and most other plastics is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree preferred
  • Familiarity with CAM programming software, preferably GibbsCAM.
  • Good communication skills - verbal and written.
  • Perform quality checks on finished products ensuring dimensions and other criteria conform to specifications.
  • Willingness to meet with customers.
  • Teamplayer, good time management and organizational skills.
