What you’ll be doing...

The Verizon Cloud Engineering & Enablement team is looking for an experienced and high-performing cloud automation engineer. The Sr. Cloud Engineer plays a critical role in designing automation for the migration of workloads into the Public Clouds (AWS, OCI, GCP, AZURE). We are looking for an experienced Cloud Engineer that will help grow our cloud capabilities by defining, architecting, and leading modern cloud solutions. You will be responsible for enabling new services in the public cloud, building new automated CI/CD tools and processes for infrastructure and application code deployments across multiple clouds, stability and continuous improvements of the core orchestration platform.

• Defining technical direction and roadmap for Cloud migrations and managing the implementation and technical solutions.
• Developing and coordinating cloud architecture across diverse areas including application development, identity and access management, network and data management, and security.
• Architecting cloud-native, hybrid, and multi-cloud solutions to meet the client’s needs.
• Engaging with technical stakeholders and third parties to understand how their systems work.
• Collaborating with Security, Governance, Cloud engineering groups, and development teams to implement solutions across various lines of business.
• Responsible for the management and improvement of existing tools, and establishing new automation. This may include integrating tools with other development technology.
• Owning the ongoing design, implementation, and management of the Public Clouds environment, testing, and implementation of new services as they become available.
• Building, upgrading, and maintaining the performance of the API and CLI layer between tools and the Cloud console.
• Designing, developing, and maintaining existing test automation frameworks.
• Creating documentation to aid in knowledge management efforts within cloud services and provide training.

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

• Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Four or more years of relevant work experience.
• Programming experience with Python and/or NodeJs.
• Experience developing automated code and infrastructure deployment pipelines using pipeline as code (Jenkins and Ansible) scripts and Infrastructure as Code templates.
• Knowledge of writing and consuming REST APIs.
• Cloud engineering experience with Public Cloud.
• Experience with APIs, CLI/SDK, CloudFormation, ARM, and/or Terraform.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer science, Math, or related field.
• UI development experience using the ReactJS and/or experience other web application frameworks such as ExpressJS, Django, or Flask.
• Strong knowledge of best practices for data security, scalability, high availability, networking, load balancing, and cost efficiencies in cloud.
• Exposure to application migration and hybrid cloud environments.
• Strong understanding of governance frameworks and services in Public cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, OCI, and GCP.
• Proficient with SQL queries, database functions, and procedures.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Strong analytical, technical, leadership, and organizational skills and is highly self-motivated, having a customer-first attitude.
• Experience in building and deploying machine learning models.
• Migrating complex projects from on-prem to Cloud which includes Web/Apps tiers as well as database transformation.
• Experience with container platforms and container technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Implement enterprise security remediation process in the Cloud.
• Knowledge of data migration and backup solutions.
• Infrastructure expertise in compute and database design for high-availability and disaster recovery, monitoring, cloud efficiency, rightsizing, and patching.
• Understanding of networking (e.g., DNS services, TCP, load-balancers, routing, firewalls) to be leveraged for designs and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of infrastructure (e.g., firewalls, load balancers, hypervisor, storage, monitoring, security) and have experience with orchestration to develop a cloud solution.
• Experience with security best practices and use of firewalls, encryption, incident response, encryption at REST & In-Transit Encryption, SSL Cert configuration at the Load balancer or server level.
• Public Cloud Certifications - AWS Solutions Architect Associate or similar.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (e.g., ability to communicate effectively with end-users, business owners, developers, managers, systems engineers).
• Strong commitment to customer service and service enablement.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize work requirements aligned with senior leadership direction.
• Ability to create effective slide decks and present them to executives.
