The position is suited for a self-motivated individual who will support Network Operations Center Services to Submarine Cable Systems Networks, in a 24x365 rotating shift environment.

  • Remotely monitor and troubleshoot fiber optic Network Transport Equipment alarms and IT supporting equipment as related to a submarine cable network.
  • Utilize various supervisory systems platforms to apply fault isolation techniques and standard diagnostic procedures, to isolate and resolve transmission equipment failure and associated circuit problem.
  • Capable of understanding and managing LAN/WAN environments
  • Reverse engineer network configuration, as needed, providing and updating documentation to allow ongoing network support (MS Visio experience is a plus)
  • Summarize and log the results/findings of each activity in related trouble ticket databases providing reports when requested.

What we're looking for...

The ideal candidate is a dynamic Team Player, supported by strong Work/Business Ethic and able to work independently in a fast pace organization. The candidate must demonstrate a working and in-depth knowledge of Optical Transport and IP Network, supporting a Submarine Cable Systems and its associated Data Communication Network's elements as well as Network security and VPN protocols.

In this worksite-based role, you'll work onsite at a defined location(s).

You'll need to have:
  • Must be a current participant of the Department of Defense Skillbridge Program or of the Hiring our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program Cohort 3-2024.
  • Bachelor's degree or one or more years of work experience in IT/Digital Transmission.
  • Must have Security Clearance USA: L (DOE).
  • Willingness to work in a rotating shift environment (includes nights, weekends, etc).
  • Proficient knowledge of Cisco and Juniper routers, switch configuration and troubleshooting ability, including: multi-area OSPF, GRE tunnels, VRFs, HSRP / VRRP, VLANs / Trunking, EPL / EVPL, QoS among others
  • Understanding of Linux, SunOS and Windows Server Operating systems. Creation of Bourne and Powershell scripts for system backups and network path monitoring.
  • Basic understanding of Ciena and SubCom DCN products which are used to manage and monitor various Submarine Cable network elements (SLTE's - PFE's)

Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Prior Submarine Cable Landing Station, NOC, or Surveillance Center's experience.
  • Ability to work independently and proficiently interact with multiple departments and various employees with all levels of expertise.
  • Previous work experience in Telecommunication (Carriers/Equipment Suppliers), IT, Cloud Computing, possess good communication skills, excellent team playing skills.
  • Dynamic, Dependable, Self-Starter and Self-motivated, Innovative, Problem solver and capable of working independently.
  • Ability to take the lead in and work under pressure.
