When you join Verizon

Verizon is one of the world’s leading providers of technology and communications services, transforming the way we connect across the globe. We’re a diverse network of people driven by our shared ambition to shape a better future. Here, we have the ability to learn and grow at the speed of technology, and the space to create within every role. Together, we are moving the world forward – and you can too. Dream it. Build it. Do it here.

What you’ll be doing...

Visible & You

Named one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies and "Best Telecom Brand" in Adweek’s Challenger Brand Awards, Visible is on a mission to reimagine what wireless should be: simple, accessible, and inclusive. Visible is the first all-digital wireless carrier in the US, which means we have no stores, no call centers, and no paper bills, allowing us to pass our savings to our members. We have built our member experience around communities and challenging the traditional family plan model in the industry - and we’re having a lot of fun doing it.

Visible is a division of Verizon, but operates uniquely inside the larger entity, taking all the best elements of startup scrappiness - disruption, innovation, and culture - while leveraging the assets and benefits of the larger corporation’s backing. No single day feels the same at Visible. If you’re someone who’d thrive in this entrepreneurial environment and embraces the challenge of delivering the best experience to our members in the simplest ways (knowing that simple requires a lot of work behind-the-scenes), check us out at https://visible.com. We are Visible.

In this hybrid role, you'll work from home with occasional in-person training and meetings. We are hiring in the following locations: Denver CO, Dallas TX, Alpharetta GA, Irvine, CA, Basking Ridge NJ and New York City.

Visible Engineering is building a next generation cloud mobile network platform, pushing the boundaries of the traditional mobile carrier. We're looking for innovative engineers who are passionate about writing code and unafraid of solving big problems. This Lead Java Engineer role on our Member Experience engineering team, will contribute to the design and development of the platform and services that keep our members happy. You will bring creative ideas and energy to the team, take calculated risks with a bias to action, and challenge our thinking with an action-forward team mentality.

  • Hands on software contribution - Identify when and how best to evolve platform functionality from a monolith into microservices.
  • Technical guidance and mentoring - Advocate for best in class developer experience in tooling, engineering processes and code patterns.
  • Learn from and mentor others and participate in code reviews to continually raise the bar in our collaboration and our technical solutions.
  • Uplift platform quality - Strike the right balance between quality and speed, making responsible technical and functional tradeoffs to deliver on our goals; incorporating technical debt and platform maintenance as a cornerstone of our engineering focus alongside feature development.
  • Stakeholder management - Working across a complex ecosystem of technical and business partners to bring our strategic vision to reality, over and over again; communicating effectively when surprises come up and helping the team to work through dependencies and blockers.
  • Flex your Java expertise to bring new and existing core functionality into our service oriented architecture.
  • Apply your Devops inclination to configure and deploy containerized services to our Kubernetes environments through automated Gitlab pipelines.
  • Design and develop clean, scalable interfaces for client/server integration exposed through RESTful or GraphQL APIs, and service to service integration via gRPC.
  • Exercise mastery of the architectural principles of web platforms including SaaS, multi-tenancy, multi-tiered infrastructure and application servers.
  • Lead enterprise application integration, including SOA, ESB, EAI, ETL environments and an understanding of integration considerations such as process orchestration, customer data integration and master data management.
  • Leverage knowledge of the security processes, standards & issues involved in multi-tier, multi-tenant web applications.
  • Maintain and enhance monolith functionality in the Salesforce/Vlocity platform to balance ongoing needs of the business.
  • Tight collaboration with our global delivery teams.

In this remote role, you'll work from home with occasional in-person trainings and meetings.”

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in Java/Spring Boot, or similar language in a microservices environment.

Even better if you have:

  • A Master Degree in computer science or related field
  • Software application development experience
  • Understanding of frontend web and mobile application architectures and frameworks
  • Experience shipping systems on Kubernetes in a cloud-hosted environment
  • Experience with SaaS platforms
  • Experience with modern observability tools (e.g. Splunk, New Relic, Datadog)
  • Experience with Apigee as an API proxy
  • Experience with Salesforce and the Vlocity platform
  • Experience working in an Agile team environment, shipping code regularly
