What you’ll be doing...

The Verizon Global Technology Services organization is searching for a strong leader for the Director- Technology Architecture & Architecture Governance. The Director will be responsible for evaluation and recommendations of technologies that meet the needs of cross-CIO functions, and further the standardization of platforms-based architectures.

This is a leader that must work closely with other leaders in the Architecture function, as well as CIO-facing teams to understand the future requirements, existing systems in place and map out the technology platforms that address the need. In this role, the Director will act as a key contributor and facilitator to identify opportunities to standardize and also optimize costs for technologies across the organization. This director also needs to work in collaboration with CIO teams to help them realize the value of the technology platforms beyond just the recommendation and evaluation phase.

The Director must demonstrate a deep understanding of technology, complexity of integration into existing enterprise systems, industry, technology advances, and business drivers. The Director will partner with other executives to drive strategic technical thinking, sharing of information and collaboration, and defining new opportunities that leverage / influence technology and expertise to solve business challenges and to provide a competitive advantage.

Another dimension of the role is for the leader to help enforce adherence to the technology standards and best practices through Architecture Governance. The position requires an individual with deep experience in software engineering best practices.

This leader needs to also have a strong application architecture and development background, so as to build a product and automation based approach to architecture governance.

This person must have strong influencing skills to bring others along the journey. The Director should also possess strategic skills, technical aptitude, interpersonal skills, project management skills, ability to work with vendors for resources and deliverables, and work effectively across other partner organizations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Drive positive change via the evaluation and selection of technologies that meet current and future CIO needs. To help CIO teams with actual adoption and transition to the target technology platform and best practices based architecture.
  • Ensure that the Technologies also drive cost optimization and standardization across the cross-CIO ecosystem, leading to a platforms-based architecture.
  • Implement reference use cases that show the relevance and value from technologies to business units.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills and ability to communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Run and Operate a Technology Review Board to drive visibility and transparency for Technology Decisions across the organization.
  • Establish and Ensure technology evaluations follow a standardized process incorporating industry best practices, maturity assessment of current and future capabilities, domain expertise from developers and business partners, including a process for RFIs, RFPs.
  • Work with various functional LOB SPOCs & business stakeholders to build digital ecosystems using the latest tools and technologies, identifying the use of open-source and custom software components as appropriate.
  • Maintain control over the architecture lifecycle parallel to the project's software and development lifecycle and help with transition. Ensure the solution architecture stays on course with the overall program and long-term vision of the entire suite of software-based solutions.
  • Make critical decisions that define a specific direction for a system in terms of implementation, operational performance, scalability, usability, fit for purpose, and maintenance.
  • Lead a team of highly technical architects as well as service providers, ensuring high quality architecture and software delivery practices.

What we’re looking for...

  • 10+ years’ of relevant experience managing digital enterprise platform design, development and deployment.
  • 5+ years’ experience working advanced software engineering best practices
  • Expert in Web and Mobile Full stack including modern Javascript frameworks, HTML5, CSS Templates, Rest API principles, Caching, Google Analytics, Responsive web design, SEO/SEM strategies. Expert on IOS and Android platforms.
  • Critical and creative thinking with ability to execute on the details; outstanding analytical, research and presentation skills
  • Ability to seamlessly interact with executives, senior business leaders and their project teams
  • Superior project management and time management skills. Able to manage autonomously, as well as prioritize as necessary
  • Experience with open-source tools and technologies to replace or integrate with existing systems and architecture that drives and delivers business benefits + superior customer experience
  • Requires broad and deep architecture practices, knowledge related to transformation and solutions as well as the ability to architect solutions by mapping common customer problems to technology solutions in the mobility space.
  • The ideal candidate will have the acumen to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities in a shared services organization that matrixes across multiple CIOs.
  • The Director will work closely with the Technology Senior leadership team and VPs.
