THE CHALLENGE

Aspiring candidates should demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of appropriate laboratory safety protocols or experience with laboratory safety procedures through course-prescribed or other laboratory experience.
  • Working understanding or interest in equilibrium chemistry.
  • Ability to execute protocols effectively to produce accurate and reliable results.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning mineral solubility tests to explore the risks of mineral scale in energy infrastructure in extreme (high pressure and temperature) environments.
  • Independently conduct high pressure and temperature mineral solubility testing; including experimental setup, execution, and cleanup with careful attention to laboratory safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with fellow research scientists to evaluate the experimental results and assess their implications for mineral scale risk in energy infrastructure.
  • Document high pressure and temperature experimental procedure, preparation, and data collection for reporting.
  • Work collaboratively to meet a pre-determined scientific and data driven goal for the project.

WHAT SETS YOU APART: (Required Skills)

  • Candidates must currently be attending a university working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a physical science or engineering and maintain a GPA of 2.8 or better.
  • Course work in thermodynamic equilibrium chemistry, geochemistry, or similar and ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of equilibrium solubility dynamics.
  • Ability to work with others to execute a plan and deliver established scientific outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of basic laboratory equipment such as or similar to densimeters, viscometers, pH meters, etc.
  • Interest in scientific research related to energy infrastructure risk assessment.

YOU MIGHT ALSO HAVE: (Preferred Skills)

  • Experience in conducting experiments at elevated temperatures and pressures.
  • Experience with geochemical or aqueous equilibrium chemistry modelling.
