The Defense Group at Leidos QRC Airborne ISR Systems Division has an opening for a Structural Engineering Manager to work in our Bridgewater, VA office. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the Leidos mission. In this mission, we provide aerial intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platforms for today’s warfighter.

THE CHALLENGE (primary responsibilities)

  • Manages structural engineering staff and assigns tasks to engineering and technical personnel

  • Leads the structural engineering team in the analysis of new products and solutions

  • Supports manufacturing by troubleshooting production and integration issues, analyzing non-conformities and deviations, and participating in configuration control boards and processes

  • Perform and review structural analyses and reports, including review of related deliverables from subcontractors and suppliers

  • Oversees resource allocation for multiple concurrent projects

  • Assures that relevant processes meet quality and safety compliance guidelines

  • Collaborates with other team leaders and departments

  • Forges and maintains relationships with external entities, including suppliers, subcontractors, customers, government stakeholders, and others

  • Advocates on behalf of team members by securing adequate resources for success

  • Provides mentorship to employees

  • Communicates technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including customers, subcontractors, vendors, etc.

  • Supports proposals and technical artifact creation and delivery

  • Predictive staffing analysis and performance tracking

WHAT SETS YOU APART (basic qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or STEM field; additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree

  • 4+ years of experience in engineering development and product lifecycle management with responsibility for project scheduling and management

  • 3+ years experience with airplane or helicopter analysis/certification

  • Experience with FAR Part 23 and Part 25 aircraft certification requirements and associated analysis methods

  • Experience in analyzing durability and safety margins of metallic and non-metallic aircraft structure using hand calculations and finite element modeling

  • Flexible thinking, including the ability to pivot and try new approaches when faced with challenges

  • Organizational, planning, and documentation skills

  • Data analytics skills and experience

  • Leadership, teambuilding, and mentoring skills

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills

  • High-level knowledge of relevant technology and processes

  • Experience with all phases of the development lifecycle including planning, conceptual design, requirements definition, preliminary design, prototyping, test and evaluation, detailed design, integration, formal verification, entry to production, etc.

  • Strong engineering analytical and technical writing skills with demonstrated experience authoring technical reports and supporting design reviews

  • Effective communication & interpersonal skills with ability to present data and explain results to leadership, subordinates & peers

  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals

Clearance Requirement

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications, not required.

  • 3+ years of experience with personnel, and project management skills

  • Ability to work on multiple projects in various stages simultaneously

  • Experience with structural analysis methods and standard tools/software

  • Experience with CFD, DTA, vibration, fatigue, and/or thermal analyses

  • Experience with military type-certification programs

  • Experience using computer-aided design (CAD) platforms

  • Experience mentoring engineers and promoting two-way communication

  • Knowledge of systems engineering and systems safety analyses and processes

  • Enterprise thinking

  • Experience with risk, issues, and/or opportunity management

  • Expertise in project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Confluence, and/or JIRA

  • Proficiency using presentation software to explain complex information to both technical and non-technical management personnel and other stakeholders

  • Experience performing cost and schedule management

Pay Range:

Pay Range $74,750.00 - $115,000.00 - $155,250.00
