Job Summary

Amentum is seeking a collaborative, passionate Senior Director IT of Cloud & Infrastructure to lead its Cloud & Infrastructure team. The Senior Director IT of Cloud and Infrastructure (CI) is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and execution of enterprise-wide information technology objectives supported by cloud and infrastructure services. Develops and maintains the enterprise network, compute/storage, and cloud/datacenter roadmap to incorporate emerging technologies, business practices, standards, and products in support of company vision. Works with IT leadership to establish the strategic direction and deliver the information systems and technologies required to support and grow the Business while maintaining a cost effective focus.

Directs experienced, professional IT team in development of near-, mid-, and long-range enterprise IT strategy and governance, including enterprise networks, server-platforms, cloud environments, storage, disaster recovery, datacenter operations, enterprise architecture, business partner relationships/licensing, IT investment management, and IT support to business development and capture efforts, including helping to ensure conformance with enterprise IT standards.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a member of the Technology Leadership Team, providing leadership, guidance, and oversight of activities related to IT’s Cloud and Infrastructure (CI) team in support of organizational and company mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Responsible for global CI teams and the building and maintaining of a hybrid technology structure that is reliable, secure, and scalable supporting the company’s needs for network, compute, storage, and general management of its premised and cloud technology architecture.
  • Leads the teams that are responsible for the company’s CI environment including premised and cloud datacenters, wide area network, email, collaboration, office automation, and enterprise architecture. Ensures expected CI service levels are maintained through monitoring and alerting, management tools, third-party partnerships, staff oversight and vendor management.
  • Directs and owns the definition of the services and capabilities for the CI tower, including metrics definition, engagement model, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) capabilities, identity management, and operational monitoring needs.
  • Provides thought leadership as part of a “Hybrid Cloud” structure and manages the team that is responsible for all aspects of Cloud including strategy, design, architecture, adoption, new service onboarding and operations.
  • Evaluates options for improved technologies and efficiencies of highly automated platforms and system architectures that are fully instrumented, self-scaling, self-healing and loosely coupled.
  • Oversees environmental modifications, implementation of new tools and processes and/or upgrades to the existing CI environment.
  • Conducts periodic evaluations to determine if objectives are being met and consistently identifies the opportunity to gain efficiencies in cost and effectiveness.
  • In conjunction with IT Asset Management, maintains the inventory of enterprise licenses and certificate holdings relative to CI areas of responsibility and develops methods to oversee license/certificate renewals and ensure company compliance with terms and conditions.
  • Develops a CI roadmap in conjunction with the other Technology leaders to assess and “future proof” the CI environment, considering both company objectives and operations (people, process, and technology) in determining the ‘how to’ phases and operational modes towards effective “state of the market” solutions.
  • Manages and coordinates IT CI projects. Evaluates and recommends to senior management the feasibility of new initiatives in information technology based on business requirements and priorities.
  • Leads by example to foster a collaborative culture within CI and across the various IT teams. Ensures that reliability, performance, security, and flexibility are showcased in all facets of the CI group.

  • Collaborates with IT Tower Leads across applications, project management, planning/field operations, cybersecurity, and service delivery to deliver superior service, support, change, and incident management; promoting effective communications throughout the IT Tower segments. Provides proactive representation of IT CI to other internal organizations and external companies as required.
  • Functions as a resource to address and resolve both internal and external customer-related Information Technology issues and concerns as they relate to CI.
  • Develops policies, procedures and practices that meet the needs of the organization and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities of direct reports across a geographically dispersed team. Ensures the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct reports are defined and understood. Enables an environment that fosters high performance and collaboration within the team and among other teams. Establishes policies to promote employee development.
  • Mentors, coaches, and supports teams to develop their capabilities through knowledge sharing and role modelling of the right attitude and behavior.
  • Recruits, motivates, develops, and retains a high-performing and geographically dispersed team; constantly evaluates the team to make sure they have the skills needed to meet business requirements as well as assessing the cost/ratio of employees versus outside services.
  • Oversees and approves creation of operational and project training material to be used by CI personnel.
  • Develops and justifies an annual budget for CI including both operational and capital expenses.
  • Responsible for management decisions regarding IT CI budget, productivity, and financial reports.
  • Monitors for budget variances and manages associated expenses within established guidelines.
  • Directs the qualification, selection, and development of appropriate enterprise providers as well as central management of provider interactions relative to functionality and services.
  • Reviews the plans/work of consultants and vendors to ensure that contract work is compatible with enterprise requirements.
  • Acquires temporary staff and other support as needed to augment internal staff capabilities, while maintaining cost within budgetary guidelines.
  • Assists in negotiating contracts and managing technology vendors/SLAs for software, hardware, and services procured.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, business administration or related field, or demonstrated equivalent, Master’s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Management certification (PMP or PgMP, Six Sigma Green or Black Belt) preferred. Must be a US Citizen.
  • Typically, 15+ years of broadly based information systems experience, including 10+ years’ experience in large enterprise environments focusing on cloud, infrastructure and technology leading complex groups of technologists across IT infrastructure disciplines including datacenters, messaging, collaboration, Cloud, O365, wide area network, etc.
  • Experience in supporting large organizational business functions, with that support comprising of people, processes, tools, and enterprise partner/provider management.
  • Experience in architecting, designing, developing, and managing enterprise infrastructure and cloud environments.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible management experience of large enterprise technology organizations, programs, or projects.
  • 5+ years managing Cloud environments; Azure preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to inspire and motivate team to accomplish goals within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • 6 + years of people leadership experience
  • Passionate about team member development and working with internal and external partners to deliver Cloud and Infrastructure technologies and support operations.
  • Solid understanding of senior management and leadership thinking.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to influence others and communicate IT concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical staff.
  • Skill in working with groups to build consensus.
  • Knowledge of federal laws and regulations relevant to program areas and information technology; and of the principles and practices of their management.
  • Knowledge of managing, deploying, maintaining and coordinating efforts related to enterprise/system-wide programs and services.
  • Such programs and services include email and collaboration systems, data centers, cloud environments, wide area networks, and associated network controls and firewalls.
  • Knowledge of deploying and maintaining enterprise level datacenters both on premise and in the Cloud (third-party provider) environments; Experience with developing a hybrid cloud model with on-premises and cloud autonomy; Demonstrated experience transforming IT infrastructure and moving organizations towards a mature cloud-based service delivery model.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment where change is expected, resources are lean, and speed of execution is valued.
  • Skill in establishing plans, objectives and goals that support an overall business strategy.
  • Skill in gathering information, resource organization, project/task prioritization and schedule development.
