SUMMARY

A Publishing Technology Specialist’s (PTS) primary role is to publish both online and paper assessment test forms for assigned programs utilizing Pearson proprietary systems and tools. Assessment item level xml editing is also required which could include functionality for technically enhanced items (TEI’s), scoring, and accommodations needs. A PTS will perform accessibility tagging at predetermined rigors for web pages and PDFs. A PTS may also be tasked to create, design, edit, and prepare files for printed ancillaries materials. A PTS must utilize available automation tools and apply predefined standards and processes to complete assigned work efficiently, accurately, and on time. Duties and tasks may vary by project assignment, individual skills, talent, and knowledge.

Qualifications - External

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • 18 months of post high school education or formal job training required
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in xml and html for online testing environments
  • Comfortable and capable of working in both Macintosh and Windows
  • Proficient with Quark, InDesign, Acrobat and Illustrator
  • Demonstrates strong skills for files delivery to print and online environments
  • Solid grasp of fundamental principles of xml
  • Strong understanding of single color to 4-color book print production including pre-press and manufacturing
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to learn new technologies and deal effectively with change in an ever-changing environment
  • Must be able to work well under deadline pressures in a professional environment
  • Work collaboratively in open-office and team environment
  • Excellent decision-making and troubleshooting skills to facilitate working independently when required
  • Recognize and navigate interdependencies and requirements across multiple systems
  • Utilize subject matter experts as needed to perform work successfully

This person must be able to sit or stand at a personal computer for a reasonable length of time typing and reading.

Ability to handle a high volume of work in a short period of time, handle multiple priorities simultaneously and operate in a demanding work environment is important.

Reliable attendance and punctuality is critical to successful performance in this role.

  • Setup of templates for accessibility and print use
  • Editing through final completion of project

10% Accessibility

  • Web page accessibility to client requirements
  • PDF remediation to predetermined rigors (program specific, WCAG 2.0 AAA and/or 508 compliant)
  • Processing of MS Word and InDesign files for accessibility
  • Support documentation maintenance

This position will be working in any of our Pearson offices at Iowa , Texas or Minnesota. Remote opportunity is possible if needed for any qualified candidates outside these locations
