What you’ll be doing...

As our Data Assurance Performance Engineer, you will be responsible for end-to-end performance of the Verizon 3G/4G/5G networks. This includes element monitoring of all physical and virtual network function EPC technologies, both active and planned within the Verizon network. Coordination with cross-functional teams is essential with other teams in the market including: Edge Engineering, Edge Applications, Engineering - Systems, Translations, TEI, VCP Edge NFVI, VZB, Network Assurance Field/Systems, and Regional/Area Data Performance.

  • Support performance and KPI surveillance for current and next generation technology including network function virtualization (NFV) of existing or new EPC core elements, evolved Network Services Edge (eNSE) SR end to end, Verizon Cloud Platform (VCP-E) growth and 5GC/RAN architecture.
  • Monitor, identify, report, escalate, and resolve technical and project-related issues that may impact EPC elements and/or Key Performance Indicators (KPI) across the Northeast Area.
  • Provide Tier-II type support to our Field/Systems/Data network assurance teams and assist troubleshooting network impacting issues as needed.
  • Communicate network health updates to key stakeholders daily and during network events.
  • Document network events with detailed investigations from beginning through RCA.
  • Research and understand the developing end-to-end network design and call flows to help maintain and improve network accessibility, retainability, mobility, and integrity.
  • Develop scripts and automation tasks as well as use directional tools to increase team efficiency.
  • Work with internal/external groups to develop tools enhancements necessary to perform daily functions.
  • Collaborate with team (internal and external) to present recommendations on enhancements to increase efficiency with increasing workload for assurance team.
  • Identify, monitor, report, escalate, and resolve technical and project-related issues that may impact EPC elements.
  • Troubleshoot and teach across multiple EPC solutions including PNF/VNF instances of: MME, PGW, SGW, EPDG, PCRF, SR/SBC, VISP, MRFP, FEX/NAC, Brocade, Firewall, ISP and MSE.
  • Monitor/Identify/Trend Key Performance Indicators utilizing tools such as Irisview/SevOne/nGenius.
  • Utilize Tools to find areas of efficiency, transparency, opportunities for improvements, and work with external groups to develop tools enhancements necessary to perform daily functions.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including nightshift work with dayshift hours as needed to support project requirements, and serve as part of a twenty four seven on-call rotation.
  • Location is flexible and based out of any of the SAP locations in the East Network Area.

You'll need to have:

  • Associate's degree or two or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A technical degree in Electronics, Electronics Engineering, or Telecommunications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Information Systems experience and/or CCNA, JUNOS, Unix, Openstack or Redhat Linux.
  • One or more years of experience in Wireless Networking Architecture or LTE Network Architecture.
  • Knowledge of data networking protocols including TCP/IP, OSI, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, BFD, SIP and other LAN/WAN protocols
  • Knowledge of Network Function Virtualization and Software Defined Networking.
  • Experience managing/configuring Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, Affirmed Networks, Extreme Networks or other OEM physical and virtual devices.
  • Knowledge of Cloud computing
  • Experience in writing/executing basic programming scripts
  • Verbal, written, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Leadership skills; proven ability to lead others toward a common goal without a direct line of authority.
  • Skillset in critical thinking, problem solving, change management and influencing/motivating of non-direct reports.
  • Ability to coordinate, collaborate, and work well within a team environment to meet common goals.

If you are hired into a Connecticut work location, the compensation range for this position is between $72,000 and $134,000 based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
