What you'll be doing...

This opportunity is for Military personnel who are current participants of the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program or are participants of the Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program Cohort 2-2023

Looking for a self-motivated and forward-thinking engineer to support the development and of the Enterprise Security Architecture. As a senior level engineer, you will be interacting with system engineers, operations staff, vendor partners, and business partners to develop evolution strategies to ensure the Verizon network is secure from bad actors, yet maintain efficiency and remain relevant to emerging technologies. Proactive and strategic design initiatives, high level communication skills, and development of next generation solutions are key functions of the Network team.

Additional responsibilities will also include:

• New technology development and testing
  
• Make and defend security design/policy decisions
  
• Network security audits
  
• Balance security vs ease of use
  
• Develop complex security frameworks
  
• Perform capacity planning analysis of security infrastructure
  
• Work with finance team on project budgeting
  
• Provide valuable input to team designs
  
• Develop new security standards
  
• Maintain complete technical knowledge of network
  
• Provide project status to management team
  
• Self-driven control of technical/educational growth
  

You'll need to have:

• This opportunity is for Military personnel who are current participants of the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program or are participants of the Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program Cohort 2-2024
  
• Bachelor's degree or six or more years of relevant work experience
  

Even better if you have:

• Seven or more years on data network security experience in a service provider network or large enterprise network environment.
  
• Understand Network Defense-in-Depth
  
• Linux OS
  
• Shell scripting
  
• Knowledge of firewall with stateful inspection
  
• Knowledge of explicit/transparent proxy and PAC files
  
• URL filtering, Black/White listing, Geo filtering, IPS, DLP, Sandboxing, and Antivirus
  
• Secure Access Service Edge and various flavors of cloud-based security offerings
  
• ICMP, TCP, UDP and application protocols
  
• Network Address Translation and its various flavors
  
• Skill set in packet analysis and log analysis
  
• Understanding of Public Cloud security postures
  
• Solid understanding of BGP, OSPF, and LAN technologies
  
• Experience with Python, XML, or YANG scripting languages
  
• Experience with Check Point, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Broadcom networking equipment
  
• Understand means to handle TLS/SSL encrypted packets
  
• Proven ability to manage complex multi-organizational projects
  
• High motivation, self-starter approach, and demonstrable leadership skills
  
• Ability to work independently and effectively under tight time constraints and deliver accurate results
  
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  
• Professional level network certification or higher
  
• New technology development and testing experience
  
• Network operational troubleshooting and network monitoring/ analysis experience
  
• Capability to communicate and manage priorities effectively to meet deliverables.
  
• Strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning new technologies with minimal oversight.
