Therefore, it will be critical that this candidate possess previous experience with leading large engineering teams and AI efforts, attracting and retaining top talent, and building a team and culture that promotes curiosity and collaborations with a strong commitment to creating value for Verizon’s customers, employees, stakeholders and the society.
The Senior Mainframe Developer position will be responsible for developing and driving the execution of strategies to streamline the data acquisition i.e. collecting the data from transaction systems (GTS, GNT and 3rd party vendors) and storing the data into data warehouses, data lakes and public/private cloud platforms.

  • Responsible for leading Data Warehouse Extracts application which acts as an ODS for EDW for Billing domain.
  • Work closely with the AI&D data engineering teams to bring synergies and best practices.
  • Serve as a single point of contact with data consumers in business for getting the requirements and executing them in an agile development environment.
  • Responsible for monitoring the code and overall application to ensure seamless performance.
  • Hands-on experience in applying best practices, managing stakeholder expectations, collaboration of solution approaches, and positioning implementations for ongoing success.
  • Evaluate tools for use case fit, perform vendor/tool comparisons and present recommendations.
  • Design and develop platform standards, common reference architecture and data governance policies.
  • Contribute to the capability roadmaps for data platforms.
  • Advise peers and business partners on fit-for-use and technical complexities.
  • Partner with other technical leaders for solution alignment with strategy and standards.
  • Resolve issues escalated from business and functional areas.
  • Be comfortable pitching solutions and gaining the buy-in from the various teams including senior leaders.
  • Establish and execute on the enterprise-wide communication and change management plan to promote effective data management/stewardship and shift mindsets through collaboration with the AI&D cross-functional teams.
  • Manage working relationships with product and project managers across projects within DG&A and Verizon with strong lines of communication.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Three or more years of experience in Mainframe technologies.
  • One or more years of telecom experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelors in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering or other related field with eight or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Programming experience in Mainframe, Relational Databases like DB2, Teradata, etc. and Unix programming experience.
  • Experience in collaborating with data engineers, architects, data scientists and enterprise platform team in designing and deploying data products.
  • Hands on experience in designing and building data pipelines.
  • Strong ability to apply business mindset to data issues and initiatives.
  • Ability to integrate cross-business strategies and manage enterprise-wide resources.
  • Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills.
  • Knowledge of data governance practices, emerging trends and issues, business and technology.
  • Fluent understanding of best practices for building Data Lake and analytical architectures on Hadoop, Teradata.
