Verizon Innovation Group seeks a motivated engineer ready for the challenge of building a new data platform to support a high growth business initiative. You will work with a team of creative and talented individuals, contributing to critical platform components such as the data ingestion API, the data asset API, ETL and ML pipelines.

You will work closely with members of your immediate team, product owners, architects, data scientists and other software engineering teams to develop high-quality solutions. You will be detail oriented, self-directed, self-motivated, with a strong capacity for working successfully and collaboratively with members across the organization.

• Design, build and support data platform APIs, tooling and data processing pipelines.

• Participate in requirements discovery, solution ideation and design.

• Implement, test, deploy and run a variety of software services and components.

• Produce appropriate documentation.

• Practice agile development methods and exemplify the core values of transparency, collaboration, acceptance of change, and iterative development.

• Learn from, collaborate with, and mentor team members.

• Facilitate technical conflict resolution with active listening and critical thinking.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

• Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.

• Four or more years of relevant work experience.

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.

****This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager****

Even better if you have:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent work experience.

• Expertise in Java, Python or Scala.

• Hands-on experience building and maintaining software services operating at scale.

• Experience with traditional relational database technologies, including schema design.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability and willingness to learn new technologies quickly.

• Ability and willingness to work in a collaborative agile team.

• Familiarity with NoSQL technologies and an understanding of their typical use cases.

• Familiarity with streaming data technologies like Apache Kafka.

• Experience with the Hadoop ecosystem, Spark, ETL.

• Experience running services and infrastructure on AWS or another cloud platform.

• Experience building data platform services.

• Experience with large volumes of real-time data.
