Position Summary:

The Food Safety Manager will assist the Director of Food Safety in the implementation of the Penske Food Safety Program in new food locations (DCM) and business operations (DCC) as well as monitor the sustainment of the program in established operations and facilities. This individual will work in locations with the operations management team to train and coach staff on all food safety matters and policies to ensure complains with all government food regulations, company and customer policies and standards. The individual will assist in providing a food safety subject matter expert to be present in customer required 3rd party food safety audits.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Implement food safety policies, procedures, controls, strategies, and goals for the company, captured in the Food Safety Platform. 100% compliance with Company / Customer policies and procedures, Federal, State, and Local Agencies requirements
  • Provide management teams and locations with effective training regarding food safety to include regulatory interpretations and updates. Continuous output of creative, innovative, and successful training that effectively supports Operations. This includes the PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) training program.
  • Monitor compliance of monthly food safety metrics and compliance data to ensure locations are maintaining food safety programs. Provide feedback and assist with root cause analysis on any negative data trends
  • Be a valuable member of the DCM Start Up team at food locations. This includes travel commitment to site, developing the food safety plan and assisting in other facets of start up implementations where needed.
  • Perform food safety assessments; this would include the different levels of assessments GFSI, IFS, SQF, and AIB. Anticipate, identify, and assist locations with compliance. Proactive identification of defects and best practices.
  • Assist in annual review and continuous improvement of Penske Food Safety program of policies and procedures
  • Assist new and existing operations with any deficiencies found at their locations to assure they are properly abated. This includes follow up with locations and leaders to monitor sustainment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Food Science, Food Safety, or related field preferred)
  • HACCP, Food Defense and Certified as a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) Certifications required
  • 5-10 years food safety or food quality experience developing and supporting a food safety program. Experience with implementation of GFSI audit schemes and being facilitator to GFSI audits.
  • Knowledge of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)
  • Expert knowledge of basic food safety techniques
  • Expert knowledge of government food regulations (FDA, USDA)
  • Effective communication skills
  • Effective team building skills
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Associate is expected to excel in decision-making, problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated business acumen.
  • Facilitating & presenting reviews/audits to various C level executives
  • Flexibility regarding travel – includes some weekends (50% travel)
