Attention NJ Applicants: In April 2020, our Company announced plans to consolidate our New Jersey campuses into a single New Jersey headquarters location in Rahway, NJ by 2023. Therefore, the NJ work location for this role will be temporarily based and the exact timing of the departmental move to Rahway, NJ will be communicated at a future date.

Both the Vaccines and Biologics Analytical Research and Development teams have an opening for a Senior Scientist based in either West Point, PA (Vaccines) or Kenilworth, NJ (Biologics). In your role as Senior Scientist on either the Vaccines or Biologics team, you will be part of a laboratory-based team developing innovative analytical methodologies for early to late phase programs through analytical characterization and data analysis. You would also contribute towards regulatory submissions to enable clinical trials. Your main responsibilities include: 

  • Driving solutions to analytical development challenges across large molecule modalities including but not limited to peptides, proteins, oligonucleotides, vaccines and bioconjugates using conventional and novel technologies 

  • Designing scientific studies to inform the selection and deep understanding of drug substance and drug product compositions and manufacturing processes. 

  • Implementing analytical methods for laboratory development, as well as release and shelf-life assessment of clinical supplies under good manufacturing practice (GMP) conditions. 

  • Providing leadership not only on drug development pipeline projects, but also innovative technology teams shaping analytical methods and tools of the future. 

  • Authoring regulatory submission documents across the project development lifecycle, as well as responding to agency questions. 

  • Documenting work in a detailed and timely manner. 

  • Collaborating effectively with internal and external partners in a cross-functional environment. 

  • Presenting results of experiments and innovation efforts to project teams and at various cross-functional forums. 

  • Engaging in the external scientific community, e.g., through participation in professional organizations, conferences, and publications. 

Education Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must hold one of: 

  • PhD Degree plus at least 0-2 years of pharmaceutical industry experience OR will be graduating with a PhD in early 2023.  

  • Master’s Degree plus at least 3 years of pharmaceutical industry experience. 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related fields, plus at least 7 years of industry experience.   

Required Experience and Skills

  • A proven record of strong technical problem solving and innovative research experience, supported by scientific publications, patents, or other professional/scientific achievements.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 

  • Strong scientific leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. 

Preferred Experience and Skills

Though not required, experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: 

  • Chromatography (e.g., RP HPLC, SEC, IEX) method development, analysis, and troubleshooting.

  • Other advanced analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry and computer programming languages (Python and R)

  • Experience in development and characterization of large molecules such as proteins, mRNA, and/or antibody drug conjugates

  • Data scienceand strong understanding of Design of Experiment (DoE) Principles and statistical analysis.
