At our Company’s campus in Elkton, Virginia, we are seeking candidates for a Specialist, Engineering position in our Technical Operations Team to support Site Wastewater Treatment operations. The manufacturing facility is located in the Shenandoah Valley along the Shenandoah River and the Blue Ridge Mountains a short distance from the University of Virginia and James Madison University.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply their enthusiasm and technical skills as a member of a multidisciplinary team supporting the operation of pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, vaccine product manufacturing facilities.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support for WWTP capital project design, coordination of operational shutdown/bypass to support construction activities, commissioning, and turnover acceptance.

  • Develop and technically support implementation of WWTP operational plan to ensure compliant operation and successful treatment of the organic, nutrient, and compound specific loading.

  • Develop and maintain WWTP influent organic, nutrient, and compound specific load modeling and waste characterization.

  • Support operations in maintaining environmental compliance, system operational reliability, and energy optimization.

  • Identifying and implementing process control monitoring and improvements.

  • Troubleshoot wastewater treatment plant, solvent recovery, and stormwater management systems and equipment with operations and maintenance staff.

  • Implement change control management for waste treatment and solvent recovery.

  • Lead and participate in technical investigations of deviations, identifying root cause, conducting investigational test protocols, implementing corrective actions, and developing investigation report.

  • Conduct alarm rationalization to eliminate nuisance alarms and improve productivity and support safe and compliant operation.

  • Participate in audits and safety reviews.

Education Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in mechanical, civil, environmental, biological, or chemical engineering or related disciplines

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum two (2) years of technical experience related to WWTP operations experience

  • Municipal or industrial wastewater treatment plant operations experience.

  • Ability to read electrical drawings, P&IDs, and understand control loops

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, team skills, personal character, and ethics

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to problem solving, with a bias towards going to see problems for oneself in the field.

  • Ability to examine an issue from diverse perspectives (safety, compliance, maintenance, automation, equipment, process, and people) in order to best understand and resolve it.

  • Enthusiasm, confidence, and initiative-taking ability needed for continuous learning and its applications.

  • Strong desire to succeed and to help others to do the same.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • 5+ years of wastewater related experience

  • Management of change experience.

  • Experience working in a pharmaceutical or manufacturing environment

  • Experience with programmable logic controllers, distributed control systems, or building automation systems

  • Experience with SAP, ProCal, or CMMS systems.
