  • The Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Transformation and Innovation (CHTI) facilitates the rapid, disciplined development, testing, implementation, and scale of new strategies to reimagine health care delivery for dramatically better outcomes, value, experience, and equity.   • The Senior Director of Product Management is responsible for leading our technology strategy and product management staff team in executing the Center's programs related to software development, technology, and the electronic health record. This includes mentoring and managing staff across the different teams at the Center, managing a team of 3+ product management direct reports, and partnering closely with executive leaders to align the Center's operating models with the health system's mission and goals. The right candidate will love identifying unmet needs, prioritizing to optimize impact and working cross functionally to guide the design and development of delightful patient and clinician experiences. This role will also co-lead Center-wide operations, strategy and vision with other operational leadership, including staffing and allocation, personnel management, intake mechanisms and triage to the appropriate technology platform, business plan development for the overall portfolio of technology-focused projects. This role will support and build product development and management capacity across Center teams and Penn Medicine more broadly.
  • As a thought leader in product management, the Senior Director will help build our organizational capacity for innovation, including large-scale strategic health system initiatives, and training of the entire Penn Medicine community in this methodology. This position requires a high degree of sophistication, resourcefulness, creativity, and the ability to lead by influencing others at all levels across the organization.
  • The Sr. Director must have the ability to develop and cultivate senior executive and peer stakeholder relationships, evaluate outcomes, conduct economic analyses and craft business cases, manage and develop staff, and refine and extend the Center's approach to software development, product management, and scaling technology programs. Focused on software development in Center, this role will evaluate new opportunities to identify clinical user needs and translate those into potential software use cases, and also evaluate ways to scale pilots into sustainable solutions (custom, vendor, or EHR). This individual will partner with the multiple software developers on the technology team and will manage the product management team. The Senior Director of Product Management must have the ability to make key decisions, think creatively, build capacity in others, and be disciplined in interpreting project/program outcomes to direct future strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Product Strategy and Vision: Develop and articulate a clear technology product strategy that aligns with the healthcare system's mission and goals. Define a compelling vision for the future of healthcare delivery and transformation. Define, develop, evaluate, and pilot new workflows and practice models for use of information technology in care delivery at the health system. Product Roadmap: Lead the creation and management of a comprehensive product roadmap, prioritizing initiatives based on market research, customer feedback, and organizational objectives. Cross-Functional and Team Leadership: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including clinicians, engineers, designers, and data scientists, to drive product development, ensuring that solutions are both innovative and practical. Directly and indirectly build and lead a high-performing product management and technology team, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for team members. Manage, track, and evaluate the portfolio for technology and product management teams. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, administrators, executives, patients/caregivers and technology partners, to gather insights, validate product concepts, and ensure successful product adoption. Product Development: Oversee the end-to-end product development lifecycle, from ideation to launch, ensuring that products are developed on time and within budget. Portfolio Management: Manage the budget for the product management department, allocating resources effectively to achieve strategic goals. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of products and initiatives, and regularly report on progress to senior leadership. Engage and align key operational stakeholders across Penn Medicine on objectives and approaches to scaling software development projects, as well as developing ROI and business models for sustainability.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
  • Master of Arts or Science (Preferred)
  • And 10+ years Professional or equivalent experience in a related field (required)
  • Experience with implementation of software development and technology (custom and/or vendor programs) (required)
