The Emergency Department (ED) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) is looking for a full time Advanced Practitioner (AP) to work primarily night shift in the ED Observation Unit at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). This position offers a competitive night shift pay differential to recognize the unique demands and responsibilities associated with working during non-traditional hours and ensure that we maintain a capable team to address patient and departmental needs overnight.

The AP is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients with urgent medical needs after initial evaluation is completed in the ED. Common diagnoses include chest pain, abdominal pain, infectious work ups, syncope, transplant patients, stroke/TIA work ups, and other medical conditions requiring short-term clinical care. The AP works independently as the primary care provider, though consultation with physician support is always available.

The AP will provide safe, high quality, comprehensive care to patients in a fast paced and dynamic observation unit that emphasizes patient flow and throughput. The AP will complete focused history and physicals on patients, order medications, order and interpret labs, EKG/telemetry, and other diagnostic studies, as well as coordinate patient care with other disciplines.

A successful AP will have strong, independent medical decision-making skills, advanced skill in multi-tasking and have the ability to adapt well to changing environments. Penn Medicine is looking for flexible, friendly and patient focused individuals to work in this large, academic teaching hospital.

Credentials:

· Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required)

· BLS/CPR, as a healthcare provider as per the AHA (Required)

· Certified Nurse Registered Nurse Practitioner (Required)

· Certified Physician Assistant (Required)

· Prescriptive Authority (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

· Master of Arts or Science (Required)

· New to practice or < 2.5 years should be: Minimum of 1 year of relevant Advanced Practice experience the Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board. Master’s degree required except for current employees grandfathered prior to implementation of PAaCE. Experienced candidates strongly preferred.
