Penn Medicine is seeking a full-time, day shift Coordinator of Professional Development and Training at the Hosptial of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP).

Job Summary:

The Coordinator of Professional Development and Training is a key member of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) Pharmacy services team. The coordinator will possess a mix of training skills, ability to oversee professional development & staff competencies, and solid experience in relationship management with all levels of staff in a highly complex academic pharmacy environment. The coordinator will partner with the pharmacy leadership team to identify knowledge gaps, develop and build organizational capability for learning, collaboration, employee engagement and service excellence linking to business outcomes and annual health system and departmental goals. The coordinator will stay up to date on emerging trends in the industry and will consult with management and staff to identify the requisite competencies/behaviors that will drive successful performance and on-going development, in addition to creating interventions to develop and sustain them.

Accountabilities:

• Maintain a professional image, provide optimal pharmacy service and leadership development initiatives for changes that promote excellence, and support departmental research initiatives.

• Create and teach both individual and group training activities, along with improving pharmacy service and supporting professional development for Pharmacy staff.

• Partner with service line areas to develop competency programs that support goals of the department and health system as a whole, in addition to creating competency programs for staff working with neonatal, adult and geriatric patient populations.

• Act as the primary contact and coordinator with the pharmacy schools to offer experiential training programs for all levels of students. Work with the technician trainer to coordinate academic experiences for pharmacy technicians. Work with the pharmacy staff to develop their skills with such programs.

• Support the program directors of both the PGY1 and PGY2 Residency Training programs and their integration with the pharmacy staff and student learners. Support and monitor compliance with all accreditation standards for the programs. Chair the All-Program Residency Advisory Committee (RAC) and direct and develop program improvements.

• Participate in entity & department wide initiatives for patient/employee safety, will demonstrate employee/safety awareness when carrying out position responsibilities, and will validate annual competencies required for the position.

• Build relationships with Pharmacy staff and implement various teaching strategies to produce career development plans that will promote autonomy and self-directed learning, and additionally acquire new knowledge/skills relevant to the position’s specialty and practice setting.

• Be respectful, maintain confidentiality, keep an open mind, be understanding, balance priorities, meet deadlines, adhere to UPHS policy & procedures, and maintains positive relationships/partnerships.

• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Education/Licensures/Certifications:

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited college of pharmacy (required)

PA pharmacist license (required)

PGY1 Post Graduate Pharmacy Residency and 3 years of experience in hospital pharmacy experience (preferred)

Academic experience and 3 years of experience in teaching/education and training of new staff, students and residents (preferred)

Board certification in Pharmacy or other area of expertise (preferred)
