Job Description

Our Engineers support internal and external manufacturing operations remain operational, continuously improve and innovate. With our extensive range of facilities and environments, our Engineers have opportunities across many diverse areas including Biological, Chemical, Automation, Capital Projects, Maintenance, Safety, Process Development, Technical Services, Utilities and Validation.

We are looking for a Specialist, Manufacturing Automation for our Elkton, VA location to be accountable for conducting the efficient operation of a variety of automated processing and information technology systems.

Job Duties

  • Installing and placing new equipment into operation

  • Providing technical guidance and sponsor including review and approval of Automation Specification, Design Specification, Automation Installation Qualification, Automation Operation Qualification, change control, and other key automation related documents.

  • Maintaining system life cycle documentation

  • Technical promotion for the assigned area and system(s) to ensure a compliant and reliable supply of product and on-time project execution with production shop floor assistance

  • Automation sponsor for various manufacturing systems, such as Siemens Building Automation Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, Distributed Control Systems and Original Equipment Manufacturer platforms

  • Designing solutions to ensure quality and stability of automation systems through future expansions, replacements, or upgrades

  • Trouble-shooting taxing equipment and automation issues to improve manufacturing performance (yield, cycle time, reliability, etc.) and maintaining the automation systems in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Principles (GMP)

  • Work closely with various site and control groups to ensure control systems are designed, implemented, and maintained and manufacturing standards are met

  • Serving as a technical resource for junior engineers

  • Participating in audits and training programs

  • Developing, reviewing, and testing Siemens Building Automation Systems and reason to promote day-to-day production and upgrades

  • Authoring, reviewing and approving automation Change Control, standard Specifications, Design Specifications, etc.

Minimum

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field with two years of automation systems experience OR

  • Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field with one year of automation systems experience

Required

  • Experience with (BAS) Building Automation Systems, plant information systems, and Visual Basic

  • Strong motivation to succeed and to help others to do the same

  • Enthusiastic, confident, and self-starters, with a passion for continuous learning

  • Strong personal motivation for coming to work for a company that saves and improves lives

  • Strong verbal and written communications

Preferred

  • Programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and/or distributed control systems (DCSs)

  • GMP environment knowledge
