Job Description

The Future Talent Program features Cooperative (Co-op) education that lasts up to 6 months and will include one or more projects. These opportunities in our Research & Development Division can provide you with great development and a chance to see if we are the right company for your long-term goals.

The Center for Observational and Real-world Evidence (CORE) is recruiting for one co-op student for 6 months starting in the summer of 2023. The co-op student will collaborate with and support a diverse set of scientists in the CORE Real-world Data Analytics and Innovation (RDAI) team to develop advanced, strategic real-world data capabilities and support disease identification, treatment pattern, and other research imperatives. You will bring in skills and classroom knowledge of computer programming, quantitative analysis, and data science and apply them in research studies under the supervision of experienced data science experts in the team.

Under routine supervision, the R&D Co-op will fulfill the following responsibilities:

  • Develop thorough understanding of the Real-World Data (RWD) and their use cases in pharmaceutical research

  • Provide hands-on programming and quantitative analysis support to cross therapeutical areas studies to meet our Value Evidence and Real-world Evidence strategic needs

  • Build machine learning and/or statistical models for predicting disease or treatment outcomes

  • Effectively communicate novel findings and methodological approaches to internal and external stakeholders

Required Education and Experience:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program, with a co-op program through their college or university.

  • Candidates must have majored in Computer Science, Statistics, Biomedical Informatics or a related field.

  • Candidates must have completed two or more of the following courses with good grades – probability or statistics, database system, computer programming, data science or machine learning, data visualization.

  • Candidates must be available to work full-time for 4 to 6 months starting in the 2023 summer.

  • Candidates must reside within the 50 US states (or Washington, DC) during the entirety of the assignment if working remotely

Other Requirements:

  • Please note when applying for this position, if the candidate is selected for an interview, the applicant must be prepared to submit two letters of recommendation and a copy of the academic transcript.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Candidates should have experience with co-authored peer-reviewed publications that utilized data science methods, and/or dedicated to datathon, hackathon, Kaggle, or other competitions (recommend adding bibliographic records, url to competition leaderboard, and GitHub repository in the Resume/CV)

  • Candidates should have solid programming skills in Python or R and SQL and are familiar with common machine learning and statistical analysis packages/libraries

  • Candidates should be familiar with AWS cloud platform components (e.g., Redshift, SageMaker, Glue)

  • Candidates should have strong attention to detail, with a quality-focused mindset and are diligent about programming and testing.

  • Candidates should be enthusiastic about working in a matrix team of colleagues of different backgrounds

  • Candidates should have effective oral and written communication skills that enable personal impact with senior-level decision makers
