Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and exceptional recent Ph.D. graduate to lead a postdoctoral project characterizing mitochondrial dysfunction in transgenic rodent and cell models to support drug discovery and development. A candidate who can apply their expertise in analytical chemistry and biochemistry to advance the project is highly desirable. The successful candidate will work as part of a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary research team under the supervision of two senior scientists with extensive experience in metabolomics, mitochondrial biology, and neuroscience. Research will be primarily carried out in the Analytical and Biochemical Toxicology (ABT) laboratory located in West Point, PA using state-of-the-art analytical capabilities, including NMR and LC-MS. The postdoctoral fellow will work in close collaboration with the Neuroscience Biology groups in our London and West Point sites. It is expected to be a 3-year research project leading to multiple peer-reviewed publications.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct research under co-mentorship from ABT and Neuroscience Biology
  • Design studies in transgenic rodent and cell models in close collaboration with in vivo neuro-pharmacologists and cell biologists
  • Execute targeted in vitro and in vivo experiments while leveraging state of the art technologies and resources across our company's network to address fundamental questions regarding mitochondrial biochemistry and biomarkers
  • Generate, organize, analyze, interpret data, and identify areas where key knowledge is lacking
  • Effectively communicate results in oral presentations at internal and external events
  • Independently draft and publish in peer-reviewed papers throughout the 3-year postdoctoral fellowship

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Candidate must have earned her/his Ph.D. within the last 2 years OR is expected to receive a Ph.D. by July 2022 in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Research experience in a number of different areas is welcomed, examples: NMR, LC-MS, mitochondria biology, neuroscience, in vitro or in vivo models
  • Ability to quickly master new concepts and techniques
  • Strong data analysis and presentation skills
  • Must have excellent organizational, planning and prioritization skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Mitochondrial oxygen consumption rate and imaging analyses
  • Cell culture and animal studies
  • Stable isotope tracer analysis
  • Statistical analysis
  • Basic computer and computation skills
