Our company seeks a talented scientist to join our Process Analytical Technology (PAT) development team, part of the global Analytical Chemistry in Development and Supply (ACDS) organization. We currently have an exceptional career opportunity for a Senior Scientist at the Rahway, NJ site. On-site and/or hybrid work.

As a member of the ACDS – PAT team, this person will integrate a motivated and inclusive team of expert scientists passionate PAT tools application from process development to routine manufacturing. The PAT Senior Scientist will develop, implement, and introduce new in-line, on-line and at-line analytical technology to support API processes. Have a strong technical background in spectroscopy (Raman, FTIR, NIR), multivariate (chemometrics) modelling skills and process control for pharmaceutical API processing and hands-on-experience and in-depth understanding of PAT concepts and its application to pharmaceutical development.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and validate in-line, on-line or at-line PAT methods to monitor and control process parameters and/or product quality attributes.
  • Coordinate and participate in cross-functional projects.
  • Support PAT scale-up and technology transfer to large scale manufacturing.
  • Write technical protocols and reports ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Support scientific documentation, validation of PAT methods and contribute to regulatory filings.
  • Operate lab and pilot scale PATs
  • Apply chemometrics and multivariate data analysis techniques for PAT calibration and spectral data interpretation in alignment with process data

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry or related discipline. (Exceptions may be considered where relevant experience may exist.)

Experience and Skills:

  • Ph.D. + 0 years OR M.S. +3 years of industry experience.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a multi-functional team environment
  • Fundamental understanding of vibrational spectroscopy. pectral interpretation & analysis.
  • Demonstrated capability in development of Process Analytical Technologies.
  • Good knowledge of qualitative and quantitative chemometric model building.
  • Ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary and team environment.
  • Fast learner, self-motivated to drive innovation with a problem-solving mindset.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Proficiency in PAT development & validation using chemometric techniques.
  • Hands-on expertise with NIR, FTIR and Raman, on-line HPLC, on-line Mass spectrometry.
  • Hands-on expertise using multivariate software platforms such MATLAB, SIMCA, Unscrambler for data analysis.
  • Expertise with PAT Manufacturing systems automation (SIPAT, Modbus, OPC, PLC).
